Local first responders recognized by Greene County mayor

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) – Mayor of Greene County Kevin Morrison recognized a team of Washington County, Tennessee first responders at the Washington County Commission meeting Monday for their first aid work in the neighboring county.

The first responders were honored for their immediate attention during an emergency that erupted at a Greene County cheese plant in Dec. 2023. It affected a total of 53 employees, according to county leaders.

Eastman receives TOSHA safety & health award

According to the county, plant employees were “immobilized and gasping for breath” after a “catastrophic release of ammonia.”

“I am eternally grateful to Washington County EMS and EMA for coming to our aid in our time of need,” Morrison said.

All 53 affected employees were treated and released from area hospitals.
