LOCAL GOLF: James, Reifsnyder lead SCC Invitational

Jun. 3—ORWIGSBURG — Blake Reifsnyder and Rodney James shot a 6-under 66 on Saturday to grab a one-shot lead in the 2023 SCC Invitational at Schuylkill Country Club.

Reifsnyder and James sit atop the biggest field ever to complete in the two-day, better-ball-of-partners, 36-hole, two-man event, as 62 teams competed in Saturday's opening round — 46 in the regular division and 16 in the newly created Senior Division.

Reifsnyder and James have a one-shot lead over the teams of Kyle Pritchard and Scott Kalamar, who are the defending champions, and Pat Sullivan and Marc Grabuski, who each shot 5-under 67s. The team of Brent Jones and Jim Rattigan sits two strokes back at 4-under 68.

The regular division was broken into four flights, with 12 teams in Championship Flight, 12 teams in First Flight, 11 teams in Second Flight and 11 teams in Third Flight. There were two Senior Division flights of eight teams apiece.

The teams of Tyler Cook/Phil Valenti and Randy Kurzinsky/Bryar White are tied atop the First Flight at 1-over 73. The teams of Vito Valenti Jr./Noah Slusser and Ian Shaffer/Michael Zimmerman were tied atop the Second Flight at 6-over 78, while the teams of Christian Schlitzer/Brandon Klinger and Shane Grapsy/Nate Yost lead the Third Flight at 10-over 82.

In the Senior Division, the team of Jeff Hudson and Dave Blichar shot a 6-under 66 to lead by four strokes.
