ACHIEVEMENT ACADEMY AWARDS

Achievement Academy presented the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff Member of the Year awards May 14 at the Lakeland campus. These awards are determined by popular vote from the full staff. Gina Mills, Pre-K ESE teacher,  was named Teacher of the Year. Mills joined Achievement Academy in 2018. Steve Holland was honored as Support Person of the Year. Holland joined Achievement Academy in 2018.

LAKELAND BETA SIGMA PHI

Lakeland Beta Sigma Phi City Council hosted the Ridge Area Council luncheon/meeting March 26 at Grasslands Golf & Country Club with Sisters from 15 Beta Sigma Phi chapters in attendance. Council President Susan Bellomy welcomed everyone.  Entertainment was provided by Carol and Gerry Larsen who presented a musical program throughout the luncheon portion of the event. A Celebration of Life service conducted by Phyllis Carver honored eight sisters who died over the past two years. A representative from each of their chapters shared a special memory and was presented with a yellow rose in her memory. Bellomy, who is also the Ridge Area Council chairwoman, presided over the business meeting.  Arrangements for the event were made by Nancy Cyphert assisted by chapter sisters Crystal Barrett and Kathleen McNeely as well as other council members. Lakeland City Council officers are President Bellomy of Gamma Tau Master, Vice President Elizabeth Paugh of Gamma Eta Master, Recording Secretary Nancy Sullivan of Gamma Tau Master, Corresponding Secretary Phyllis Carver of Torchbearer Alpha and Treasurer Cyphert of Xi Gamma Rho.

Lakeland Beta Sigma Phi City Council celebrated the 91st anniversary of the founding of Beta Sigma Phi sorority by Walter W. Ross at Grasslands Golf & Country Club on April 30. Nancy Sullivan read a letter from Laura Ross Wingfield, president of the executive council of the international office, which announced the 2022-2023 theme “Friends at Your Fingertips,” The Diamond Circle Ritual was given to  Sullivan of Gamma Tau Master in recognition of her 60 years membership in Beta Sigma Phi. Barrett and McNeely of Xi Gamma Rho Chapter, Linda Christian of Gamma Eta Master, and Bellomy and Julie Gates of Gamma Tau Master received the Golden Circle Ritual for their 50 years of membership. Xi Gamma Rho’s Program of the Year went to McNeely with Cyphert named Woman of the Year. Other Women of the Year honored were Sue Territo of Preceptor Zeta, Nancy Doehring of Gamma Tau Master and Carver of Torchbearer Alpha. The Council Woman of the Year was awarded to Cyphert.

ADVENTHEALTH POLK FOOD DRIVE 

AdventHealth Heart of Florida and AdventHealth Lake Wales team members donated nearly 4,100 items of food to Loughman Oaks Elementary School to help 80 students and their families during the summer break. The Polk County Community Health Needs Assessment shows food insecurity ranks in the top four of issues the community wants to be addressed.
