Local high school athletes sign to play college sports

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wednesday is National Signing Day, with athletes across the country signing letters of intent to play sports at the college level.

Several athletes in the Wichita area were in on the festivities, signing for a variety of sports, including football, soccer, weightlifting, and cheer.

At Derby High School, eight different students signed letters of intent.

JoJo Valles signed with Friends University for Cheer. Caitlyn Woods and Grace Counts signed with Cowley Community College for Dance.

Demaria’e Baker signed to play football at Missouri Western State, and Gabe Henriques signed to play football at Washburn.

Riley Beasly signed to play soccer at Hesston College, Max Burns signed to do powerlifting at Friends, and Derek Hubbard signed to play football at the University of St. Thomas-Minnesota.

Kansas water battle: Ruling favors Hays and Russell

Several from Bishop Carroll also signed, three of which are moving on to play college football.

Sam Hampton is staying in the area and signed to play at Southwestern College. Thomas Gorges signed to play at Ave Maria, and Carter Morris will play at Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Luke Holthusen is the lone track and field signee at Bishop Carroll, and he is staying in Wichita, signing to run at Wichita State.

Up in Valley Center, Hornets running back Daimont Mucker signed to play football for Butler Community College.

There were two athletes from Circle High School in Towanda who signed on Wednesday, both of whom signed to play baseball. Landon Haines signed to play for Barton Community College, while Steele Saville signed to play for Friends University.
