Huron Academic Endeavors will host its first open house on Tuesday.

Huron Academic Endeavors is a new homeschool center that services the Blue Water Area. Now officially located in the Harrison Center, the homeschool center is primed to teach students from preschool up to second grade. President Kelly Oldford said via email that the staff is feeling so grateful, blessed and excited to be opening the center for homeschool families.

"We are thrilled and thankful to be a part of families' homeschool journey," Oldford said. "We are here to fill the gap between all the opportunity and creativity of home education with the structure and community of a structured school program."

The open house is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in classroom 203 at the Harrison Center, located at 55 15th St., Port Huron. Classes will officially begin at the center on Sept. 5.

Yearly tuition is currently set at $1,400 for preschool students and $2,000 for students between kindergarten and second grade.

Huron Academic Endeavors works as a hybrid-homeschool model, meaning enrolled students will be taught at home for the majority of the week by their parents and then taught at the center by a teacher for two days a week. Currently, instruction days at the center will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Through a hybrid model, parents and teachers will need to communicate on a regular basis to ensure the students are keeping up with lessons.

"We are here to offer curriculum support, professional instruction, and resources, such as tutoring and speech therapy, for students and parents," Oldford said. "We are here to offer all the fun of social school experiences - a picture day, science fairs, music performances, and more."

People who attend the open house will be able to meet the staff and board of directors. Tours of the center's classrooms, front lobby, cafeteria, gym and playground will be given as well. There will also be a T-shirt giveaway for the new applicants.

Parents will also get to ask questions about the homeschool center and its hybrid model.

"It is energizing, humbling and so encouraging to hear the passion of homeschool families," Oldford said. "Huron Academic Endeavors is taking that passion to new heights."

Oldford's email also said that Huron Academic Endeavors has plans for growth. The center plans to eventually add grades levels, classrooms, and instructors. The center is also organizing athletics, clubs, group activities and volunteer opportunities for its students.
