This week's tragic mass shooting which killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, has sparked a lot of conversation about guns, mental health and cultural issues in the country.
Here's how to contact Ohio's elected officials in Washington D.C. as well as finding their public comments after the shootings this week.
Ohio
Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio
Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, can be reached at his Washington D.C. office at (202) 224-2315. His district offices are Cleveland: (216) 522-7272; Cincinnati: (513) 684-1021; Columbus: (614) 469-2083; Lorain: (440) 242-4100 Brown's Twitter account is @SenSherrodBrown and you can email him at https://www.brown.senate.gov/contact/email.
“It’s the same story. We mourn their loss. We pray for their families…and nothing changes,” Brown said on a call this week. “Politicians have to stand up to the gun lobbyists.”
Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio
Rob Portman, a Republican, can be reached at his Washington D.C. office at (202) 224-3353. His district offices are Columbus, 614-469-6774; Cincinnati: 513-684-3265; Cleveland: 216-522-7095; Toledo: 419-259-3895 Portman's Twitter account is @senrobportman and you can email him at https://www.portman.senate.gov/meet/contact.
“Senator Portman believes there are no easy answers," said spokeswoman Mollie Timmons. "He supports working in a bipartisan way to find solutions that would reduce gun violence and improve school safety without infringing on the rights of law-abiding citizens. A common theme in almost all of these tragedies is that there have been many warning signs that were either not caught or ignored. Senator Portman believes we should work to keep firearms out of the hands of those who would cause this kind of harm while also protecting due process and the second amendment.”
Rep. Troy Balderson, R-Worthington
Troy Balderson, a Republican, can be reached at his Washington D.C. office at (202) 225-5355 or his Worthington office (614) 523-2555. Balderson's Twitter account is @RepBalderson and you can email him at https://balderson.house.gov/contact/.
“Like every American, Rep. Balderson was horrified by the carnage in Uvalde, Texas," said spokesman Clark Siddle. "Congress needs to focus its attention on policies addressing the worsening mental health crisis in our country and that would actually help ensure safety and security of our schools and save lives. Nineteen families lost their children. Let’s stop the partisan bickering and have a meaningful discussion as Americans.”
Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Columbus
Joyce Beatty, a Democrat, can be reached at her Washington D.C. office at (202) 225-4324. Beatty Columbus's office is (614) 220-0003. Beatty's Twitter account is @JoyceBeatty and you can email her at https://beatty.house.gov/contact.
It’s devastating that nearly a decade after Sandy Hook, 14 students have been killed in their Elementary school.

As we grieve and mourn the horrendous evil in Uvalde, Texas let’s pray for comfort and healing.
Government cannot implement a spiritual solution; however, we must recognize that these acts of despair often stem from and always inflict spiritual wounds. #PrayersForUvalde pic.twitter.com/v3lxvOZOi3— Warren Davidson (@WarrenDavidson) May 26, 2022

Johnson's Twitter account is @RepBillJohnson and you can email him at https://billjohnson.house.gov/contact/.
“The tragic shooting that took the lives of 19 young children and 2 teachers is incomprehensible," Johnson said in a statement. "It is a stark reminder that evil does, in fact, exist in this world…and yesterday it showed up in Uvalde, TX. My heart goes out to the victims and their grieving families…they are in my prayers. But it also bothers me how quickly some exploit such a horrific crisis to advance a political agenda. We have over 330 million people in our country, many of them have guns, and almost none of them would never think of committing such a heinous act as shooting their own grandmother and murdering 21 innocent people, including 19 defenseless children. To do so reveals a serious underlying mental health issue."
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana
Jim Jordan, a Republican, can be reached at his Washington D.C. office at (202) 225-2676. His district phone numbers are Bucyrus: (419) 663-1426; Lima: (419) 999-6455; Norwalk: (419) 663-1426. Jordan's Twitter account is @Jim_Jordan and you can email him at https://jordan.house.gov/contact.

School shootings are the most incomprehensible form of evil. Unfortunately, it's an evil I am acutely familiar with. It's the same sick wickedness I saw in the eyes of T.J. Lane in 2012 after he shot and killed 3 of his classmates at Chardon High School and wounded 3 others.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo
Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat, can be reached at her Washington D.C. office at (202) 225-4146. Her district offices are Cleveland: (216) 767-5933; Lorain: (440) 288-1500; Toledo: (419) 259-7500. Kaptur's Twitter account is @RepMarcyKaptur and you can email her at https://kaptur.house.gov/contact.
“I am sickened by the tragedy that has unfolded in Texas today, and my heart is with the loved ones who should never have to bear such unspeakable pain," Kaptur said in a statement. "More than a dozen beautiful souls have been senselessly taken by a monster who held no regard for human life. Coming mere days after the racist murders carried out in Buffalo, our nation must come to grips with what is so painfully obvious: ignoring this violence and evil is no solution at all. Students, teachers, kids on the sidewalk and on playgrounds, and seniors buying groceries are being callously hunted down with no end in sight. Special interests – vested with colossal power – have been allowed to systematically thwart even the most reasonable measures that are supported by gun owners and non-gun owners alike. We cannot allow those who think the status quo is acceptable to continue to rule the day. Americans are demanding sanity, and Congress must take the commonsense steps that will protect lives and respect civil liberties.”

Robert E. Latta, a Republican, can be reached at his Washington D.C. office at (202) 225-6405. His district's offices are Bowling Green: (419) 354-8700; Defiance: (419) 782-1996; Findlay: (419) 422-7791. Latta's Twitter account is @boblatta and you can email him at https://latta.house.gov/contact/.
"Marcia and I are horrified to learn of the tragic loss of such young lives today at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Tx.," Latta said in a Facebook post. "A completely senseless crime that has robbed so many families. Praying for the victims, their families, and the entire community."
Latta spokeswoman Claire Hurley added: "The Congressman believes that our nation has lost its moral compass and that we must get to the root of the evil that is plaguing our country. He continues to support legislative efforts to harden schools and address the current mental health crisis. He has also supported legislation, Fix NICS, to close loopholes in the federal background check system."
