Local Navy vet gifted HVAC unit for acts of service

A local navy veteran was awarded a brand-new heating and air-conditioning system for her ongoing service to others. Her daughter nominated her for the Holiday Heroes giveaway contest, run by Snyder Air.

“Anyone on the street, anywhere we go, if my mom see’s someone in need then she’s the first person to wonder, are they eating enough, do they have enough clothes, do they have somewhere safe to be,” said Kimberly Washington.

Kimberly Washington is proud to say her mom Susan Heath is known for her big heart.

Susan Heath served in the navy for 14 years and continues to serve her community by donating her time, contributing food and clothes to those in need.

Susan and Kimberly moved to Jacksonville in 2020- after Susan’s husband passed away after battling cancer in 2019.

After the move, their HVAC unit broke, leaving them without heat or air, and no means to afford a replacement.

“I’ve seen my mom struggle, I’ve seen my mom bend over backwards for everyone and I wanted to give back to her,” said Washington.

After all Susan’s acts of kindness, Kimberly entered her mom in Snyder Air’s Holiday Heroes giveaway contest.

And two weeks ago, the company selected Susan as the winner.

“I’m grateful and I just cried the whole time because I was like this was unbelievable, truly a blessing,” said Heath.

Snyder Air installed a brand-new heating and air-conditioning unit at Susan’s home on Friday.

And since then, Susan is continuing to pay it forward, donating her old window units and a space heater to someone in need.

“It’s the right thing to do, you know, you got to be able to help one another,” said Heath.
