Herald-Banner staff report

Neighborhoods across Royse City are expected to spend next Tuesday evening, hosting events which are designed to boost community development while meeting with local law enforcement and fire department officials and learning how to fight crime.

The Royse City Police Department is hosting the local observance of the National Night Out.

Traditionally, the National Night Out is conducted on the first Tuesday night in August, although Texas cities have been allowed by the National Association of Town Watch to conduct activities on an officially recognized alternative date on the first Tuesday in October.

The National Night Out is scheduled 6-8 p.m. and the police department has been signing up neighborhoods wanting to participate by holding block parties or other gatherings. The events are geared towards getting to know neighbors and speaking to local leaders about crime prevention and other topics.

Neighborhood block leaders are still being sought and anyone living in the city and who is interested in hosting or co-hosting a National Night Out Block Party and would like a visit from the first responders and local officials can contact Lt. Ray Fitzwater at 972-524-4776 or email at rfitzwater@roysecity.com
