Maple Avenue lane restrictions

ZANESVILLE − The City of Zanesville has announced that Maple Avenue will be restricted to one lane starting Monday and lasting 45 days from Bell Street to Princeton Avenue for replacement of waterlines prior to the road being resurfaced later this year. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes.

Additionally, Liberty Street will be closed from Lee to Walnut streets for five days starting Monday for repairs at the railroad crossing.

ODOT announces road projects

JACKSONTOWN − The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced two projects this coming week in Muskingum County.

Ohio 666 will be closed for a slide repair from June 5 to 9 from Culbertson Road to Gilbert Road. The suggested detour is Ohio 666 to Ohio 60 to Ohio 208 to Ohio 666 and reverse for the other direction.

Ohio 146 will be closed for culvert replacement from June 5 to 9 from Coon Ridge Road to McDonald Road. Once done crews will move to another culvert between Wilhelm Road and Salt Creek Drive with an estimated completion date of June 21. The suggested detour is Ohio 146 to Oho 313 to Ohio 83 to Interstate 70 to Ohio 60 to Ohio 146 and reverse for the other direction.

Wolfe earns academic honors

BEREA − Jensen Wolfe of Somerset, a graduate of Sheridan High School, was one of 74 students at Baldwin Wallace University named to the 2023 spring Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Team.

Locals get OCA awards

COLUMBUS − The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association’s Beef Exhibitor Show Total program had an awards banquet recently at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.

Danae Shaw was the Attitude Award Winner in the Character Traits Awards and Madison Fisher placed second in the beginner's division of the photography contest. Fisher also had the reserve champion Crossbred Heifer and was sixth for beginner showman. Makayla Vest was fifth overall for Maine-Anjou Steer. Brade Wright was third overall for Percent Simmental Heifer and ninth for intermediate showman. Madison Fisher had the champion Market Heifer. All are from Perry County.

Bristol Bates had the champion Shorthorn Heifer and was eighth for beginner showman. Harrison Sutphen was fifth overall for Shorthorn Plus Steer. Mackenzie Bromley was eleventh for Crossbred Heifer. Delaney Bell was sixth overall for novice steer in the market animals category. They are from Muskingum County.

Atkins joins angus association

ZANESVILLE − Paige Atkins of Zanesville recently became a junior member of the American Angus Association, headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Locals named to dean's lists

ZANESVILLE − Josie McCune of Hopewell was named to the spring semester dean's list at Northern Illinois University. The graduate of West Muskingum High School is majoring in early childhood education.

Caleba Silvia of Zanesville was named to the spring semester dean's list at Heidelberg University.

Samuel Muetzel of Somerset and Morgan Williamson of New Concord were named to the spring semester dean's list at Slippery Rock University.

Named to the spring semester dean's list at Marietta College were Grant Moore and Brayden Ziemer of Zanesville, Ryan House of New Concord, Beau Priest of Dresden, Ashley Lewis of Malta and Ashton Carroll of Corning. Named to the high honors dean's list were Emmah Kronenbitter and Makenzie Vanderbark of Zanesville, Kelly Niceswanger of Stockport, Karsan Ross of Nashport, Dani Nesselroad of Stockport, Iris Atkins and Blade Barclay of New Concord and Camille Gillespie of McConnelsville.

Perry County receives bridge work money

COLUMBUS − The Ohio Department of Transportation has pledged $28 million to support local repair, replacement and demolition projects of 24 aging bridges around the state through the Municipal Bridge Program.

Locally, $872,166 is going toward a bridge replacement on Buckeye Street in Crooksville and $220,000 for a bridge demolition on Scotch Hill Road in Shawnee.

Hydrants being checked in city

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville Water Division will be flushing fire hydrants from 7:30 to a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the general area of Woodlawn, Muskingum, Moxahala and Putnam avenues and Lake and Jewett drives and all related side streets. Work started Friday.

Residents may experience low water pressure and discoloration and should refrain from doing laundry until after 4 p.m.

Board of DD to meet

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Board of Developmental Disabilities will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the board office, 1304 Newark Road.
