OHSP investigating fatal crash

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported a fatal traffic crash from 11:20 p.m. Thursday on Ohio 586 in Licking Township.

The post said Jason Lynn, 46, of Dresden, was southbound when he went off the roadway and struck a culvert. He was ejected from his 2003 Chevy Silverado and pronounced dead at the scene by the Muskingum County Coroner's Office.

Genesis offering mammograms

ZANESVILLE − Genesis HealthCare System is working with various local agencies and businesses to offer free mammograms to those in the community who can't afford one due to lack of insurance, being under-insured or not having the ability to pay.

Voucher for free mammograms will be available at Coconis Furniture locations and the Genesis Care Cancer Center.

To schedule an appointment by the end of year call Genesis Central Scheduling at 740-454-4242. Last year, 81 patients received the free tests through the program.

South Zanesville Council meeting

SOUTH ZANESVILLE − South Zanesville Village Council will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday in council chambers, 24 E. Main St. The finance committee will meet prior at 6:30 p.m.

Chinese auction held

NEW LEXINGTON − A Chinese auction is being held form 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Calvary Arts Center, 447 S. Main St., New Lexington.

One does not have to be present to win. Winners will be contacted. Drawing is at 3 p.m. and pick-up is 5 p.m. Call 740-651-5151 for more information.

Church store taking donations

ZANESVILLE − The First United Methodist Church, 857 Putnam Ave., is currently taking donation of items which are distributed to those in need.

Needs include winter coats, warm clothes, socks, tennis shoes, boots, other clothing of various sizes and non-perishable food items.

The church's store is open form 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 740-454-0447 for more information.

ACT Workshop planned

ZANESVILLE − An ACT workshop for high schools students will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at Zane State College. Cost is $90, which includes lunch and workbook. For more information, email testingcenter@zanestate.edu or call 740-588-5000.

I-70 work continues

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Transportation continues the reconstruction project of Interstate 70 through Zanesville.

Motorists can expect flagging on Monday of Linden Avenue under the Muskingum River Bridge in order adjust jacks under the beams. Flagged lane closures will also be for two days on State Street to install a permanent vandal fence.

Morgan County gets federal grant

MCCONNELSVILLE − Morgan County is a receiving a $1.3 million U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration grant for water infrastructure improvements. This part of the EDA's $300 million Coal Communities Commitment in the American Rescue Plan.

The grant will ensure reliable water service to local businesses and support industrial job growth in a region impacted by the declining use of coal. Money will be matched with $350,000 in local funds and is expected to create 35 jobs, retain 50 jobs and generate $2 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

Brown named to steering committee

COLUMBUS − Chad Brown, president of Zane State College, has been named to the Ohio Association of Community Colleges new Ohio Semiconductor Collaboration Network Steering Committee.

The collection of 23 community colleges will develop career pathways providing skills training and talent needs for the semiconductor industry in Ohio. The goal is to fine-tune training programs to teach exactly the skills the tech industry is looking for in job candidates.

Code Enforcement Committee to meet

ZANESVILLE − The Cod Enforcement Committee of Zanesville City Council will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in council chambers of city hall.

Discussion will include updates on demolitions, the weed crew, hiring processes, homeless encampments and the 600 block of Main Street along with considering permit costs and new basketball hoops.
