Helzer releases new novel

KUTZTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA − Zanesville native Shannon W. Helzer is releasing the new novel "7 Days to Eternity" from Twin Oars Publishing in May. Previously published were "Rhue's House" and the children's book "You are Too Young."

In the new book, a group of college students on a seven-day expedition seek evidence of the possible return of wolves to the northern woods of Maine. The group has to deal with the physical demands of the journey, personality clashes and other obstacles such as a foodborne illness, drones watching from overhead and an unscrupulous killer. It will be available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other places books are sold.

Earle named library fiscal officer

ZANESVILLE − Tyler Earle has been named the new fiscal officer for the Muskingum County Library System. He has a bachelor's degree in public accounting from Muskingum University.

He will oversee the financial operations of the public library system and ensure all financial operations comply with state and local laws, the directives of the state auditor and policies and decisions of the library board of trustees.

Blood drives scheduled

ZANESVILLE − The American Red Cross has three blood drives scheduled upcoming in the local area.

Drives will be from noon to 6 p.m. April 21 at Malta United Methodist Church in the youth building, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 25 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 at New Lexington High School.
