ODOT altering Ohio 16 plans

COSHOCTON − The Ohio Department of Transportation has issued a reminder it is pausing the full-depth reconstruction project on Ohio 16. Both lanes of traffic will be open starting Oct. 26 from the Ohio 83 intersection to the entrance to Cleveland Cliffs through the spring. Initially work was going to continue until sometime in December before both lanes would be reopened. However, due to concrete shortages the project will resume in the spring.

Canal Royalty contest set

COSHOCTON − The junior queen contest of the Canal Royalty Pageant will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday on the main stage in Roscoe Village, part of the Apple Butter Stirrin' Festival. The queen and princess contest is at 5 p.m.

The Mayor's Promenade featuring the newly crowned royalty and visiting royalty will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, starting in the garden at at the Roscoe Village Visitor's Center. Introduction and awards will be at 3:30 p.m. on the main stage. Those in the promenade enter the festival for free.

Junior queen candidates are Ava Rose Brown, Sophia Sellers, Paisley Barnett, Emilia Lonsinger, Reagan Fink, Billie Lynn Sheets, Piper Archer, Alayna Brown, Aemlia Phillips, Oona Lawson, Paizlee Tittle and Paisley Vickers.

Princess contestants are Zylee Stanton, Jamie Ridenbaugh, Ella Lawson and Kenzie Roach. Queen candidates are Tori Wine, Zoe Hardesty and Raina Kersterson,

Land bank taking demolition bids

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Land Reutilization Corporation, commonly known as the land bank, will have bid openings during the regular meeting at 1 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Coshocton County Commissioners Office for structure demolitions part of an Ohio Department of Development program. The land bank is receiving $500,000 from the Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program to raze industrial and residential structures across the county.

Community breakfast planned

WEST LAFAYETTE − The West Lafayette Lions Club and Blue Ridge 4-H Club will have a breakfast buffet from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at the West Lafayette United Methodist Church, 120 W. Union St. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 2 to 10 and free for those under age 2.

CFLP to meet

NEWARK − The Coshocton-Fairfield-Licking-Perry Solid Waste District board of directors will meet in regular session at 9 a.m. Oct. 28 at the Licking County Transit Building, 745 E. Main St., Newark. The meeting will feature requests for 2023 funding, approval of the 2023 budget and to designate solid waste facilities that can receive municipal solid waste from the district.

Halloween Showcase set

COSHOCTON − A Halloween Showcase will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29 at Clary Gardens, 588 W. Chestnut St. Performers include Graham Beaumont, Heath Chaney, Jenna Jordan, Kayla Wyers and Kyle McMullen doing musical theater numbers from some of the most spookiest musicals.

Donations will be benefit River View Music Boosters and Clary Gardens. There will be raffles with prizes and gift baskets and a costume contest at intermission. Seating is first-come, first-serve. One can bring their own food and drinks. Light refreshments such as baked goods and cider should be available.

Patriotic program at Isleta church

NEWCOMERSTOWN − A patriotic programs for veterans and the general public will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 6 at Isleta United Methodist Church, 58608 County Road 9, Newcomerstown.

The church choir will perform the musical "The Spirit of America" and there will be patriotic readings. The Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard will Post the Colors.

Donations will be accepted for the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland and the New Philadelphia VA Clinic. Needed items include monetary donations, combs, brushes, disposable razors, gum, hard candy, soap, coloring books, colored pencils, postage stamps, security envelopes, telephone cards, writing tablets and puzzle books.
