Tipton benefit planned

COSHOCTON − A benefit for Richard Tipton will be from 11 a.m. 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at J&R Door, 48000 U.S. 36.

Tipton was diagnosed in May with stage three testicular cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Money raised will go toward medical bills and expenses.

The event will feature a car show, cornhole tournament, T-shirt sale, food stand, bake sale, 50/50 raffle, silent auction and bounce house for kids. Registration for the car show is from 10 to 11 a.m. for $10. The entry free for the cornhole tournament is $5.

Boat ramp improved on County Road 28

COSHOCTON − Access to the Killbuck-Walhonding River in Coshocton County will be closed this month for a boat ramp improvement project, per the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife. The river access point is east of Warsaw and northwest of Coshocton on County Road 28.

Planned improvements include installing a boat ramp and adding accessible parking with a solar light. The project is expected to take approximately one month to complete. During this time, the road to the access site will be closed. This area has primarily been used as a kayak launch site and, when finished, this project will allow larger watercraft to launch from the access point.

Cichon joins WLPD

WEST LAFAYETTE − Kevin Cichon, formerly a deputy for the Coshocton County Sheriff's Office, recently joined the West Lafayette Police Department. He's a 1995 graduate of Ridgewood High School and served in military police.

The police department now has five full-time and five part-time officers.

Local students start at UF

FINDLAY − The University of Findlay recently started fall semester classes. Among students are Keeley Murray of Newcomerstown majoring in animal science and Aaliyah Better of Warsaw majoring in exercise science for health professions.

Lamb and Wool Queen candidates sought

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton and Tuscarawas Lamb and Fleece Improvement Committee is accepting applications for the 2023 Coshocton-Tuscarawas Lamb and Wool Queen.

The queen will promote lamb and wood industries at fairs, festivals and special events. Candidates must be a youth who has interest in the sheep industry and is a resident of Coshocton or Tuscarawas counties.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 14. Interviews will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Ohio State University Extension Office of Coshocton County. Applications are available online at coshocton.osu.edu and tuscarawas.osu.edu and at the extension offices in both counties. Health department offering COVID-19 boosters

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Health Department is offering COVID-19 booster shots, including bivalent boosters.

Appoints are preferred, but walk-ins are accepted. Clinics are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays at the health department, 724 S. Seventh St. Call 740-622-2611 for more information or to make an appointment. Shots are available for those 6-months-old and older and the bivalent booster is for those age 12 and older.
