Watershed district not effected by East Palestine incident

NEW PHILADELPHIA − The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District has noted none of the water that flows through the Muskingum River has been impacted from the trail derailment in East Palestine. As the incident occurred outside the watershed, no MWCD reservoirs have been effected.

The spill contaminants flowed into the Little Beaver Creek in Columbiana County and has moved to the Ohio River. The detectable levels of the chemicals and movement are being closely monitored by USEPA, ORSANCO and other agencies, the MWCD said.

TID board to meet

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville-Muskingum County TID board will meet in regular session at 10 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Welcome Center, 205 N. Fifth St.

Civil War Roundtable to meet

Rich Hill Trustees meeting

CHANDLERSVILLE − The Rich Hill Township Trustees will meet in regular session at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the township building, 3640 Herron Road, Chandlersville.

Harris part of CreateAthon

TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA − Caden Harris of Zanesville was part of a CreateAthon benefitting at the University of Alabama for West Alabama charities. More than 60 students volunteered to create integrated communication plans for area non-profit organizations.

Flashback Tribute Concert in McConnelsville

MCCONNELSVILLE − The Flashback Tribute Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Twin City Opera House, 15 W. Main St., McConnelsville.

The event features Todd Berry as Elvis Presley, Willa Wittekind as Patsy Cline and Gary Phelps as Johnny Cash.

Berry was born legally blind, but overcame the handicap to build a singing career. Berry was a runner-up on "Star Search" in 1995 and has opened for country singers Colin Raye and Neal McCoy.

Muskingum U a top 25 'collegiest' town

NEW CONCORD − Muskingum University was ranked 24th nationwide in a list of "collegiest" college towns by the Washington Post.

The newspaper analyzed U.S. Census data on urban areas with the largest share of college students. Urban areas follow population-density patterns, not typical town borders or municipal boundaries. According to Post staff writer Andrew Van Dam, the classic college town is built around the school at its heart.

The data shows the college-student share of the population is 45.1 percent based with the village population at 2,836.
