Coshocton man dies in Florida motorcycle crash

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA − Clayton Carkin, 22, of Coshocton, died in a motorcycle crash in Flagler County, Florida, during Daytona Bike Week.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred about 3 a.m. Tuesday on the John Anderson Highway, north of Bridle Ridge. Carkin lost control of his 2007 Honda VTX and went off the right side of the road into a grassy shoulder. The bike went on its side and the driver and passenger became separated. The motorcycle went into the wood line and struck a tree.

The patrol post said neither were wearing a helmet. The female passenger, 20-years-old from Daytona Beach, suffered minor injuries and was not transported for treatment, the patrol post stated. Carkin died at the scene.

RPC meeting

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Regional Planning Commission executive committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the conference room of Coshocton County Commissioners. There are two variance requests to review.

Coshocton BOE having special meeting

COSHOCTON − Coshocton City Schools Board of Education will meet in special session at 3:30 p.m. March 15 at the administrative center, 1207 Cambridge Road. The purpose is discussion of property repairs, upgrades, maintenance plans for summer work on scheduled items and personnel. Possible action might be taken.

TID meeting set

COSHOCTON − A Transportation Improvement District meeting will be at noon Friday at Coshocton City Hall. Discussed will be the current status of the TID, updates on current projects and upcoming potential projects.

Opportunity School to meet

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton Opportunity School will meet in regular session at 11:30 a.m. March 27 at the Olde Warehouse Restaurant, 400 N. Whitewoman St. A public hearing will be prior at 11:15 a.m. to discuss ARP IDEA/Federal Program funds and expenditures.

Children's choir performing April 5

COSHOCTON − The African Children's Choir will perform at 7 p.m. April 5 at the Coshocton Church of the Nazarene, 1058 Orange St.

"Just As I Am" combines traditional hymns with African cultural sounds and a visual story of God's faithfulness. A freewill offering will be taken to support the choir and its programs.

Lenten Lunch features Pastor Royce

COSHOCTON − Pastor Stew Royce will be the guest speaker for the next Lenten Lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church. His message will be "The Forgiving Heart," focusing on Colossians 3:12-14.

The lunches feature soup, crackers, vegetables, cheese, pie or cake and coffee or water for a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds goes to the Church Women United clothing drive for local youth.

Medical center launches backpack campaign

COSHOCTON − Coshocton Regional Medical Center is launching its annual Fill the Backpack campaign to provide school supplies to about 3,300 area elementary students.

Items needed include backpacks, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, colored pencils, dry erase markers, tissues, yellow highlighters and pencil boxes. Contact Kaylee Andrews for more information at 740-623-4450 or kandrews3@primehealthcare.com.

Simple Steps Recovery is now at 7 p.m. Fridays at the Coshocton County Career Center. The location change make its closer and more convenient for most of the community.

A free Monarch Butterfly chrysalis and egg hunt will be part of Easter EGGsplosion along with music and a message of hope. Identical services will be 9 and 11 a.m. April 9 at the church.

The church is holding a summer camp for ages 3 to 12 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with registration now. Spots are limited. Free transportation will be available from Baltic Park and the Coshocton Walmart.
