Traffic restrictions starting Monday

ZANESVILLE - Pine Street will be restricted at the intersection of U.S. 40 (West Main Street) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, for upgrades to signal equipment and sidewalk improvements.Interstate 70 westbound will be restricted to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

OWDA awards loan to Zanesville

COLUMBUS − The Ohio Water Development Authority has awarded $4.6 million in low interest loans to Ohio community to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure and to make water quality improvements.

This included an $857,792 loan for 30 years at 3.88% interest to the City of Zanesville for rehabilitation of eight filter media beds at the water treatment plant in order to extend the useful life of the equipment.

Wilson join angus association

NEW CONCORD − Evelyn Wilson of New Concord was recently named a junior member of the American Association, headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Mid-East BOE to meet

ZANESVILLE − The Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the administrative center on the Zanesville Campus, 400 Richards Road.

MU radio honored

NEW CONCORD − Muskingum University's radio station, WMCO 90.7 FM, recently won the Spirit of College Radio Award from the College Radio Foundation.

This was in recognition of outstanding and spirited efforts made by college radio stations on World College Radio Day, Oct. 7. Out of participating stations, only 10 get the honor.

During the event, WMCO had additional live shows, a live remote broadcast from the campus quad, a broadcast of a volleyball game and aired a College Radio Day documentary. Students also sent audio thank you cards to campus and community supports and recorded special videos shared on social media sites.

Boards of education to meet

ZANESVILLE − Maysville Local Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the administrative center, 3715 Panther Drive.

West Muskingum Board of Education will meet in regular session at 5 p.m. Thursday in the library of West Muskingum Middle School, 100 Kimes Road.

Locals achieve at YSU

YOUNGSTOWN − Luke Craft of Somerset, Maylea Tom of Chandlersville and Matthew Brooks of Nashport recently graduated from Youngstown State University. Craft earned a bachelor's degree in marketing with a professional selling track, Tom a bachelor's degree in primary education and primary intervention specialist and Brooks a master's degree in business digital marketing.

Kylan Harper of Zanesville was named to the fall president's list for a 4.0 grade point average. She's majoring in psychology.

Named to the dean's list were Luke Craft of Somerset, Christina Cremers of New Concord, Ryan Meadows of Trinway and Maggie Hutcheson and Julian Jackson of Zanesville.

Holmes assigned to committees

COLUMBUS − State Representative Adam Holmes, a Republican from Nashport, was recently appointed to various committees in the Ohio House of Representatives. He will be chair of the aviation and aerospace and joint Medicaid oversight committees and is a member of the public health policy, public utilities and technology and innovation committees.

MVESC providing mental wellness resources

ZANESVILLE − Muskingum Valley Education Service Center is partnering with the Cook Center for Human Connection to offer a virtual family mental health night from 8 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Participants will hear from a leading clinical psychologist, be able to ask questions and learn more about free resources available for school children struggling with mental health issues.

I-70 lane restrictions announced

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Transportation is continuing with full depth replacement of Interstate 70 through Zanesville. The westbound lane will be restricted to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 6 to 9 for work.
