Road closed for 60 days for slip repair

New Gottengen Road will be closed between Salem Road Meadowlark roads starting Monday for 60 days to repair a road slip, just east of Salem Road. Project duration will be weather dependent. Residents will have access to their properties during the closure.

Tree sale order forms are now available

The 2023 Guernsey Soil and Water Tree sale is underway Order forms can be obtained by calling the Guernsey County Soil and Water Conservation District office at 740-489-5276, or by stopping in the office. Payment must be accompanied with submitted order forms. The office will not accept orders over the phone. Orders are due by March 10 with tree pickup scheduled for the second full week in April.

Forage and Grassland Council meeting set

The Ohio Forage and Grassland Council will hold its annual meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Deerassic Park Education Center, 14250 Cadiz Road, Cambridge. This meeting is designed to be educational for those involved in livestock production utilizing pastures and forages. The theme this year will Feeding Forages and Forages Feeding Us. Presentations will focus on providing information on pasture ecosystems, that benefit livestock and wildlife.

Keynote speakers will include Dr. Ed Rayburn, a recently retired Extension forage specialist from West Virginia University; Jason Jones, Ohio Grasslands and Grazing coordinator for Ohio Pheasants and Quail Forever; Dr. Marília Chiavegato, agroecosystem management for Food System Resilience Professor at The Ohio State University; and local farmers Andy Fadorsen (beef), Devin Cain (dairy), and Stuart Heavilin (sheep). Registration for members is $40 and can be completed online at: https://ohioforage.com/event/2023-ohio-forage-and-grasslands-council-conference/. Registration is due by Feb. 10.

Chordial to offer singing valentines

The Cambridge Barbershop Chorus, known as Chordial, will be delivering singing valentines from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Valentine's Day Feb. 14. All proceeds are used to support Chordial Chorus in its mission to promote four-part acapella music in schools.

Each valentine will include a flower, a box of candy, a message and a song for $25. Reservations can be made by calling Berk Jones at 740-439-5551 or Jon Lobos at 740-432-7408. Musical selections include your choice of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart," "Sweetheart's Day," "Love Me Tender" or "You Are My Sunshine." The deadline for reservations is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10.
