Mid-East students elected officers

ZANESVILLE − Four seniors from Mid-East Career and Technology Centers have been named southeast regional officers for the SkillsUSA student organization.

They are criminal justice student Paige Burns of Maysville, multi-skilled health technologies student Lexie Cronin of Tri-Valley, criminal justice student Casey Lemley of Tri-Valley and multi-skilled health technologies student Adrianna Wallace of Zanesville City Schools. Mid-East students received four of the seven available spots during a recent fall leadership conference.

West release memoir

ZANESVILLE − Stephanie West, a graduate of John Glenn High School, is releasing the memoir "On Fire" on Feb. 7. It will be available in paperback through Amazon and on Kindle in digital form.

She has a bachelor's degree from Muskingum University and a master's degree from Ashland University. She worked as a reporter for the Cambridge Daily Jeffersonian, The Independent, Zanesville Times Recorder, Columbus Dispatch, The Other Paper and multiple Columbus area magazines. She covered the Columbus Blue Jackets for Fox Sports Ohio.

The memoir explores West's journey in single motherhood from early childhood through her daughter's high school graduation. It includes stories of homelessness, an attempted sexual assault on West and career derailment related to her being a woman and single mother.

West's debut novel "Newcross" is slated for release in late 2023 and her second narrative non-fiction book is targeted for early 2024.

Locals honored at WSCC

MARIETTA − Named to the Washington State Community College for the fall semester were Kylie Pope of McConnelsville, Beau Swiney of Crooksville and Emil Valent of Philo. Chelsey Hill of Malta made the fall semester dean's list.

Auditions for 'Cinderella' upcoming

ZANESVILLE − The Zane Trace Players will have auditions for "Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella" at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the The Renner Theatre, 148 N. Seventh St.

There are named roles for six woman and three men, six specific roles for children ages 5 to 10 and six specific roles for youth ages 11 to 18. There are also ensemble roles for all ages. Those auditioning should be prepared to sing, read lines and a learn a small dance routine.

Performance dates March 17 to 19 and 24 to 26. Rehearsals will be Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with more days likely as show dates get closer.

Diamonds Quartet concert on Saturday

ZANESVILLE − The Diamonds Quartet will present "Silver Bells and Diamonds" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Secrest Auditorium and Music Hall, 334 Shinnick St. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Children can receive free entry with an adult ticket holder or subscription member. One can also get free entry with college identification. Tickets are available at zanesvilleconcertassociation.org for $55.

Rotary raffle winners

ZANESVILLE − Traci Hina, Karen Addis, Troy Scott, Scott Webb, Dough and Carla Waltman, Pam Davis, Shirley Hicks and Allison Scott won a Rotary 12 Days of Christmas raffle. Each will receive one month membership to the Muskingum County YMCA and $25 gift card to La Cabra Tacos.
