Bids opened for West Lafayette projects

COSHOCTON − Coshocton County Commissioners recently opened bids for two projects in West Lafayette using Community Development Block Grant funding. One is storm sewer improvements on Oak Street and the other is for street improvements on Oak, Kirk and Sixth streets.

Six companies placed bids. They were Kinsey Excavating of New Philadelphia, MJ Excavating of Sugarcreek, William Albert Inc. of Coshocton, Dirt Dawg Excavating of Ashland, Stull Excavating of Scio and Tuscon Inc. of New Philadelphia.

The engineer's estimate was $510,200 for the storm sewer project and $257,600 for the street improvements project. MJ Excavating had the lowest combined bid for both projects at $597,147.99; $389,852 for the sewer work and $207,295.99 for the street work. Bids will be reviewed by Diversified Engineering of New Philadelphia for a recommendation.

Car overturns on C.R. 54

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office reported a single-vehicle crash at 5:06 p.m. Wednesday on County Road 54 in Bedford Township.

Authorities said Caleb Trull, 19, of Frazeysburg, was traveling south when he lost control of a 2004 BMW. He went off the left side of the road and into a ditch, overturning. Trull was treated and released on scene. Assisting were Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services, Walhonding Valley Fire Department and Prince's Wrecker Service.

Two-vehicle crash at Walnut and Hickory streets

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office reported a two-vehicle crash at 2:13 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Walnut and Hickory streets.

Authorities said Ryoko Tidrick, 77, of Coshocton, was traveling south on Hickory Street in a 2002 Jeep and failed to stop at a stop sign. Jerry Angelo Jr., 39, of Coshocton, was traveling east on Walnut Street and struck the Jeep, causing it to go off the roadway and strike a stop sign.

Tidrick was treated and released on scene. Angelo was transported to Coshocton Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Assisting were Coshocton County Emergency Medical Service, Coshocton Fire Department and Prince's Wrecker Service.

Montgomery Foundation taking grant applications

COSHOCTON − The Montgomery Foundation is accepting grant applications from local non-profits for specific needs and projects.

Grants are not for operational expenses. Non-profits with 501c3 designation must be in Coshocton County or provide services in Coshocton County with projects being capital in nature.

Oliver makes dean's list

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS − Jackson Oliver of Millersburg was named to the fall semester dean's list at John Carroll University.

Lenten Lunches announces next speaker

COSHOCTON − The next Lenten Lunch is from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church. The suggested donation for the soup meal is $5.

The next speaker will be Pastor Mark Armstrong of the Coshocton Presbyterian Church on "The Broken Heart" with scripture from Matthew 11:28 and Psalm 34:17-18. Debbie Clark will be presenter and soloist with Alice Hoover as pianist.
