Railroad ties catch fire in red sea area

ZANESVILLE − The Coshocton County Fire Department battled a fire involving discarded railroad ties on Wednesday in what is known as the Red Sea area. The fire was reported about 7:30 a.m. and crews cleared about 3 p.m.

The department reported no injuries and a cause has yet to be determined. Capt. Cory Wilson said it's been several years since they've had any fire issues in the Red Sea area.

Assisting on scene were fire departments from Conesville, Three Rivers, Walhonding Valley and Jackson Township.

Tree work at dog park

COSHOCTON − The City of Coshocton has announced that the front section of the dog park at Kids America will be closed on Friday for tree work.

MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE − Richard Klinehoffer II of Coshocton and Shannon Kincaid of Newcomerstown were named to the summer semester president's list at Southern New Hampshire University.

Quilt show at Warsaw museum

WARSAW − The Coshocton Canal Quilters will hold a showcase of about 50 quilts by local artists at the Walhonding Valley Historical Society and Museum, 102 Main St., Warsaw. Viewing is free, but donations are accepted. The show is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 to 11 and 17 to 18.

Dollar General Foundation awards literacy grants

GOODLETTSVILLE, TENNESSEE − The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded more than $114,000 in grants to to programs across Ohio. Money will be used to provide books, technology, equipment or materials. Coshocton City Schools and River View Local Schools received $2,500 each.
