Pine Lake Road closing for work

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum Engineer's Office has announced Pine Lake Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday from Tumblin Road to Green Valley Road for culvert replacement.

Part of Maple Avenue closing for repairs

ZANESVILLE − The City of Zanesville has announced the southbound lanes of Maple Avenue will be closed from March 28 to 30 from Kinzel Avenue to Winton Avenue for permanent road repairs related to a water main break in the 2400 block.

The northbound lane will remain open and southbound traffic will be directed to the middle lane. Lane closures and traffic patterns will be posted with message boards, signs and barrels. Motorists should anticipate delays and use an alternate route if possible.

Klemetti speaking for lecture series

NEW CONCORD − Erik Klemetti will present "Before, During and After the Eruption: Using Mineral Ages and Compositions to Read the History of Magmatism in Cascade Range Volcanoes" at 4 p.m. March 28 in Room 343 of the Boyd Science Center at Muskingum University, as part of the John Glenn Distinguished Lecture Series in Earth and Planetary Sciences.

Klemetti will discuss what we know about the processes of how volcanoes get ready to erupt (or not erupt), focusing on the Cascade Range of Oregon and California. His students and he have analyzed zircon ages and compositions from Mt. Hood and the Tumalo Volcanic Center (TVC) in Oregon along with the Lassen Volcanic Center (LVC) in California.

Klemetti is an associate professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences and volcanologist at Denison University. He works on volcanoes all over the planet.

Museum volunteers needed

NEW CONCORD − The John and Annie Glenn Museum in New Concord and National Road and Zane Grey Museum in Norwich are searching for volunteer tour guides for the upcoming season.

Both museums are open starting May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Shifts are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 to 4 p.m. with flexible scheduling.

Training sessions will be at 10 a.m. April 11 at the Glenn Museum and 10 a.m. April 12 the National Road Museum. For more information, call 740-826-3305 or go to johnglennhome.org.
