Fire departments get grant funding

COLUMBUS − Two fire departments in Perry County are receiving funding from the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant program on the state level.

The grants will help fire departments acquire wildland fire equipment such as UTVs, ATVs, wildfire slip-in units, PPE, MARCS communication devices and other items supporting rural fire department development.

The Hopewell Township Fire Department is receiving $9,380 and the Somerset-Reading Township Volunteer Fire Department is getting $10,000.

Duchess Shoppe closing

ZANESVILLE − The Duchess Shoppe at 140 Pleasant Grove Road has announced a closure starting Sunday. Plans are to reopen a new store in November. In a Facebook post, management thanked customers for their support and well wishes.

Charles sentenced to 8 years in prison

MORGAN COUNTY − Judge John Wells sentenced Daniel Charles to a total of eight years in prison last week on three separate cases.

The cases against the 34-year-old McConnelsville resident included 10 counts of pandering obscenities involving a minor, second-degree felonies; 10 counts of pandering obscenities involving a minor, fourth-degree felonies; and one court of compelling prosecution, a third-degree felony. Charles plead guilty to all charges.

Roundtable meeting

The Zanesville Civil War Roundtable will be at 7 p.m. March 27 at the Stone Academy Museum, 115 Jefferson St.

Heating assistance available

ZANESVILLE − MEOAG Community Action Agency of Muskingum County is offering a home energy assistance program for those who have heating sources disconnected, are threatened with disconnection or have less than 25% of bulk fuel remaining. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) runs from Nov. 1 to March 31 with benefits applied to energy bills after Jan. 1.

Those applying must be at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines and provide most recent utility bills, list of household members with proof of income and citizenship, proof of address and proof of any applicable disabilities. Water assistance available

ZANEVILLE − The Ohio Department of Development and MEOAG Community Action Agency of Muskingum County is offering water and wastewater assistance to low income eligible Ohioans.

Assistance in paying water and wastewater bills is available for those at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines. Households must have been disconnected, have a disconnect notice or be establishing new or transference of services.

One must provide copies of their most recent water and wastewater bills and a list of all household members with proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months. Everyone over the age of 18 must have proof of citizenship or legal residency, social security number, proof of disability if applicable, proof of address and photo identification.
