Christmas parade in Roseville

ROSEVILLE − The second annual Roseville Fire Department Christmas Parade and Toy Giveaway will be at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 11. Those participating should be at Roseville Village Park by no later than 4 p.m.

One may bring toys or candy to giveaway along the parade route. There is no entry fee.

Handbell festival returns

ZANESVILLE − The 31st annual Zanesville Handbell Festival will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at Grace United Methodist Church, 516 Shinnick St.

There will be five local handbell choirs from the area performing. Each choir will perform two numbers and there will be a mass ring with Jane Irvine of Marietta as guest director. A freewill offering will be accepted.

Straker Foundation issues grants

ZANESVILLE − The J.W. and M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation is awarding nearly $200,000 in small capital, program and project and emergency fund grants for the fall. Total requests received were $575,157.24.

Capital awards were $25,000 each to Foodworks Alliance for a walk-in freezer and labelling machine, Head Start/Coburn United Methodist Church Food Pantry for a walkway, Y-City Midget Baseball League to improve and replace unsafe walkways to the ballfield and Muskingum County Center for Seniors to install automatic doors on five restrooms. Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District got $17,962.26 for expansion of the Marshall Greens Community Garden.

Receiving $10,000 each in project and program funding were Christ's Table to work with Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry to process meat for food kitchens and pantries, Heroes Landing for a secure serve, Muskingum County Social Justice Coalition to expand the summer Career Connections Camp, Philo United Methodist Church for installing HVAC equipment and Trulight Ministries for a winter shelter at Hallowed Hills Campground.

Emergency grants went to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Muskingum County Family Dependency Court and Maysville Elementary School. Foxfire Schools also got $2,900 for the PBIS reality store.
