Deer archery season set to open

Ohio’s deer archery season opens statewide Saturday, Sept. 24, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Archery season continues until Feb. 5, 2023. Ohio offers additional seasons for hunters to pursue deer. Youth-only firearms hunting is open for hunters under the age of 18 on the weekend of Nov. 19 and 20. The seven-day deer gun season is from Monday, Nov. 28 to Sunday, Dec. 4, with a bonus weekend on Dec. 17 and 18. Deer muzzleloader season is from Saturday, Jan. 7 until Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023.

MWCD meeting in New Philadelphia

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District board of directors will meet at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at Kent State University Tuscarawas, 330 University Drive NE, New Philadelphia.

Luysters to be inducted into Hall of Fame

The Harrison County Sports Hall of Fame Committee will induct Jerry, Randy, and Kim Luyster, all players on Lakeland Basketball teams in the past this year. The induction will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at the John Stephenson Center next to the Wagner football field in Cadiz. Former Lakeland basketball Coach Gary Caviness will speak about their careers while attending Lakeland High School.

Rix Mills offers live music

Pickin’ in the Pavilion will take place at 7 p.m. on September 25 at the Rix Mills Presbyterian Church. Food service will begin at 6 p.m. and music will start at 7 p.m. with the John Glenn High School String Sounds and Steel Drums and Chorus performing.
