G&G gets renewable energy grant

ZANESVILLE − The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Energy for America Program recently awarded $38,605 in a Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Grant to G&G Grain and Livestock. Funding will be used to generate renewable energy and make facilities more energy efficient.

The company will install a roof-mounted solar array. This is expected to replace all of the company’s energy use per year, which is enough energy to power eight homes.

Food and shelter funds available

ZANESVILLE − The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan County has received $36,286 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in Muskingum County through the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

Applications are due by Jan. 9 and can be found at unitedwayofmpm.org, then emailed to Katie Grubbs at kgrubbs@unitedwayofmpm.org.

Those requesting funds must be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, be eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs and, if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.

Culvert work set for Ohio 757

SOMERSET − The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced that Ohio 757 will be closed for culvert replacement Wednesday to Thursday, just north of Somerset. The suggested detour is Ohio 757 to Ohio 13 to Ohio 204 to Ohio 757 and reverse for the other direction.

Law library board to meet

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Law Library Resource Board will meet at noon Jan. 13 at the library, 22 N. Fifth St.

Genesis named most wired hospital

ZANESVILLE − Genesis HealthCare System has been named one of the most wired hospitals of 2022 by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.

Genesis has received the honor for seven years. Genesis is certified as level 9 for ambulatory care and acute care, which places Genesis in the top 10% of all hospitals in the country utilizing integrated technology.

CHIME conducts an annual survey to assess how effectively healthcare organizations apply core and advanced technologies into their clinical and business programs to improve health and care in their communities. The surveys assessed the adoption, integration and impact of technologies in healthcare organizations at all stages of development, from early development to industry leading.

Law enforcement agencies get grants

COLUMBUS − Gov. Mike DeWine's office has announced 13 local law enforcement agencies receiving $9.1 million to help prevent and investigate incidents of violent crime in communities.

The Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office will receive $349,169.35 to purchase new technology to assist in preventing and investigating incidents of violent crime, create a pre-arrest diversion program and hire a diversion coordinator and build community collaboration and engagement to reduce violent crime by hosting a series of awareness events.

Additionally, the McConnelsville Police Department will get $16,848 for retention and/or hiring bonuses to help maintain current law enforcement staffing levels, recruit new officers and continue ongoing public safety services to prevent and investigate violent crime.

To be named to the Dean's List, students must earn a term GPA of 3.60 or above on a minimum load of 12 completed semester hours of A-F graded coursework.

KoC having free throw contest

DRESDEN − The Dresden Knights of Columbus chapter is holding its annual free throw championship at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at the Tri-Valley Community Fitness Center, 35 E. 10th St., Dresden. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m.
