Zanesville companies honored

ATHENS − Appalachian Partnership and Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE) recently recognized the best of the best at its annual summit at the Baker Center at Ohio University.

Zanesville Steel and Patriot Stainless and Welding, both of Zanesville, were recognized for being innovators that have either expanded into new areas related to its core operations or providing a specialty product. Buckeye Mechanical Contracting of Jefferson County received the same honor.

Three roads closing for work

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Engineer's Office has announced three roads closing this week for culvert replacements.

Coopermill Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday from Pinkerton Road to Meadow Farm Church Road. Old River Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday to Friday from Fiberglass Lane to Bridge Street. South Hopewell Road will be closed from 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to 3:30 p.m. Thursday from Black Road to Palmer Road.

Extension offering certification programs

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio State University Extension Office of Muskingum County has two certification programs upcoming.

A fertilizer applicator certification class will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Rural Services Building, 225 Underwood St. There is no cost for this course required to anyone applying fertilizer, other than manure, to more than 50 acres of agricultural production grown primarily for sale.

A beef quality assurance class will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Muskingum Livestock Auction, 944 Malinda St. The goal of the program is to increase the competitive base for marketing Ohio cattle. Beef Quality Assurance is a program to ensure that beef and dairy cattle are maintained in a manner which will result in a safe and wholesome beef product for the consumer. Certification is good for three years.

BOE to hold work session

ZANEVILLE − Zanesville City Schools Board of Education will meet for a work session at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the administration building, 956 Moxahala Ave. The purpose is discuss personnel, communications, programs, construction and other items with no action to be taken or business considered.

Blood drives set

ZANESVILLE − The American Red Cross will be holding several blood drives in the local area. For more information, call 800-733-2767 or go to redcrossblood.org.

Drives will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 30 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 23 at the James Singer Activity Center, noon to 6 p.m. March 24 at Cornerstone Full Gospel Church in Duncan Falls, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 at Unity Church of the Nazarene, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 25 at North Terrace Church of Christ, 1 to 7 p.m. March 27 at the Adamsville Community Center and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 29 at John Glenn High School in New Concord.

Zanesville student helping with UF play

FINDLAY − Belle Vaughn of Zanesville will participate in the theater production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at the University of Findlay at the Marathon Center for Performing Arts. Vaughn will serve as assistant props master.
