Dresden teen in critical condition following crash

COSHOCTON − Ohio State Wexner Medical Center reported a Dresden teen injured in a Saturday crash was in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said Philip Sims, 51, of Zanesville, was driving a 2013 International semi-truck with trailer southbound on North Second Street while Cameron Conrad, 19, of Dresden, was eastbound on Chestnut Street in a 2002 Honda Civic. Conrad failed to stop at a red light and the Civic hit the semi just behind the rear axle as it went through a green light.

Conrad was extricated from the vehicle and transported from the scene by MedFlight to the Wexner Medical Center. Sims was not injured.

Minor injuries in motorcycle crash

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office reported a motorcycle crash at 4:26 p.m. Tuesday on Ohio 83, near Clark Township Road 222.

Authorities said Andrew Prouty, 29, of Pennsylvania was traveling north when he lost control of the bike, laid it on its side and skid a short distance off the right side of the roadway. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at Coshocton Regional Medical Center. Assisting were Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services and Three Rivers Fire District.

Coshocton Schools off Monday

COSHOCTON − Coshocton City Schools will be closed Monday for a teacher in-service day. Classes resume on Tuesday.

SWCD banquet planned

COSHOCTON − The 80th annual meeting and banquet of the Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District will be Oct. 20 at Lake Park Pavilion. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.

There will be a presentation featuring the Outstanding Conservation Farmer, Big Tree Contest and Junior Fair Hay Show winners. Supervisor election will also be held. Candidates are Kristy Leindecker, Jordan Olinger and Greg Waters with two being elected to three year terms.

Entertainment will be by the Land of Legend Chorus. A buffet dinner will be by Theo's Restaurant of Cambridge. Tickets are $15 a person with children 10 and under at $6. Reserve by Oct. 6 by calling 740-622-8087, ext. 4, or go to coshoctonswcd.org.

Tree Farm Field Day set

COSHOCTON − Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District is having a tree farm field day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at Tiverton Timber Tree Farm, Township Road 352, Brinkhaven.

It will showcase a variety of good forest management practices through walking tours, seminars and educational displays. Seminars will include deer management, forestland as an investment, forest legacy planning, navigating the Oho Forest Tax Law and current agricultural use valuation program, the process of selling timber and a talk from 2022 Tree Farm of the Year owner Mike O'Neill.

Fall foliage and farm tour upcoming

COSHOCTON − The 51st annual fall foliage and farm tour by Ohio State University Extension of Coshocton County, Coshocton County Farm Service Agency and Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District will be Oct. 22 and 23.

The self-driving tour will focus on the southwest corner of the county. Map will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds with stops open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The tour is free, but donations are accepted.

Deer archery season set to open

COLUMBUS − Ohio’s deer archery season opens statewide Saturday, Sept. 24, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Archery season continues until Feb. 5. Ohio offers additional seasons for hunters to pursue deer. Youth-only firearms hunting is open for hunters under the age of 18 on the weekend of Nov. 19 and 20. The seven-day deer gun season is from Monday, Nov. 28 to Sunday, Dec. 4, with a bonus weekend on Dec. 17 and 18. Deer muzzleloader season is from Saturday, Jan. 7 until Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023.
