One injured in crash involving a semi truck

COSHOCTON — The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office handled a two-vehicle traffic crash at 6:18 a.m. Wednesday on Ohio 541, near County Road 54 in Bedford Township.

Authorities said Robert Pettit Sr., 62, of Warsaw, was traveling north on County Road 54 when he failed to yield for a stop sign at Ohio 541. He was struck by a 2021 Kenworth semi heading east on Ohio 541 operated by Brian S. Johnson, 44, of Webb City, Missouri.

Petti was extricated from his vehicle by mechanical means and transported to Genesis Hospital in Zanesville for treatment of unknown injuries. Johnson was treated and released on scene. Assisting were Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services, Walhonding Valley Fire District and Prince's Wrecker Service.

Local schools getting state safety funding

COLUMBUS — Gov. Mike DeWine recently announced $1,183 schools in 81 Ohio counties will receive nearly $47 million in grant funding from the Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant Program.

Funds will be used to cover expenses associated with physical security enhancements such as security cameras, public address systems, automatic door locks, visitor badging systems and exterior lighting.

This includes Ridgewood Local Schools receiving $50,000 for its district annex building and Coshocton City Schools getting $50,000 for the high school.

Entities get OAC funding

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Arts Council recently announced $18.2 million in arts grants for entities across the state.

Conesville Elementary received a $30,000 TeachArtsOhio grant. The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum got $12,796 and the Pomerene Center for the Arts received $8,640 for sustainability. The Pomerene Center also got a $14,757 ArtsNEXT grant. Rogue Elephant Productions received $5,311 from an ArtsNEXT grant.

Chamber awards county project

COSHOCTON — The Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce recently gave a Community Improvement Award to Coshocton County Commissioners for the Skip's Landing Project.

The project started in 2019 when commissioners purchases the former Skip's Refuse property on County Road 1A for conversion into a park. Funding included $150,000 from the state capital budget, $50,000 from Robert Simpson and $25,000 from the Coshocton Foundation.

The park includes a boat ramp, signage, landscaping, benches, picnic tables and bicycle rack. It's hoped the site will be used for food trucks, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, picnics and more along the Three Rivers Peninsula. A dedication ceremony is being planned for the near future.

Tyson joins PA graduate program

MARIETTA — Brittney Tyson of Millersburg recently enrolled in the physician assistant graduate program at Marietta College. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University. Tyson is one of 34 students in the 26-month program.

Community Band playing Aug. 12

COSHOCTON — The Coshocton Community Band will not be playing this Friday on the Coshocton Court Square due to First Farm Friday and concert by ERNEST. The final concert of its summer season will be Aug. 12.

Linton Township Trustees to hold special session

PLAINFIELD − Linton Township Trustees will have a special meeting at 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at the township building. The purpose is to pass a resolution to place five-year renewal levy on the Nov. 8 general election ballot for fire services.
