ODOT continues I-70 work

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Transportation is continuing reconstruction of Interstate 70 through Zanesville.

Flagged lane closures and temporary sidewalk closures on State Street will be observed for two to three days starting Sept. 26 for staining and sealing. Flagged lane closures will also be observed for two days starting Oct. 3 for installing a permanent vandal fence.

Old Newark Road will be closed under I-70 from 9 p.m. to midnight Sept. 27 for a bridge deck pour.

Blood drives scheduled

ZANESVILLE − Several American Red Cross blood drives are scheduled upcoming for the local area. For more information or an appointment, call 800-733-2767 or go to redcrossblood.org.

Blood drives will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sept. 26 and Oct. 10 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 in the gymnasium of Muskingum University in New Concord, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at Maysville High School and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Fink's Harley Davidson.

Drives for Morgan County will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at Morgan High School and 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 5 at Stockport United Methodist Church. Drives in Perry County will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Thornville Masonic Lodge and 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Somerset American Legion.

Franklin Schools BOE to meet

DUNCAN FALLS − Franklin Local Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the administrative office, 360 Cedar St.

Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary meeting

ZANESVILLE − The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary will meet in regular session at noon Oct. 3 at the Salvation Army Annex, 515 Putnam Ave. The meeting will feature lunch, a bag auction and discussion on upcoming projects.

Marijuana plants discovered in Perry County

PERRY COUNTY - The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Butler County Sheriff’s Office, and the Perry County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit conducted a Perry County wide marijuana eradication effort on Tuesday, which resulted in the recovery of 75 marijuana plants. It is estimated one seized marijuana plant has a street value of $1,500. As a result of the seizure authorities recovered $112,500 dollars’ worth of marijuana. The operation is entirely funded by federal drug seizures.

Two injured in Ohio 13 wreck

NEW LEXINGTON − Authorities recovered suspected narcotics from a severe traffic crash at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Ohio 13 and Jamestown Road.

The Perry County Sheriff's Office Special Investigation Unit assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol on scene. The patrol continuing to investigate the circumstances and cause of the crash.

One person from the crash was transported via Air Evac medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Another person from the crash was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Names of those involved have not been released by the patrol.

Underground Railroad symposium set

ZANESVILLE − The third annual Underground Railroad Symposium by Muskingum County History will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the John McIntire Library, 220 N. Fifth St.

The program will be streamed live on the library's Facebook Page. Register at events.muskingumlibrary.org. Box lunches will be provided to the first 50 who register for in-person attendance.
