Cadillac hits tree and mailbox

WEST LAFAYETTE − The Coshocton County County Sheriff's Office reported a single-vehicle crash at 11:19 p.m. Wednesday in the 53000 block of County Road 425 in White Eyes Township.

Authorities said a silver Cadillac was traveling west when it went left of center, off the left side of the road and into an embankment. It continued down the embankment until striking a tree and mailbox. All occupants left the scene prior to arrival of officers.

Anyone with information on the incident may contact the sheriff's office at 740-622-2411. Assisting were the West Lafayette Fire Department, Prince's Wrecker Service and Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services.

Two-vehicle crash at Five Points Intersection

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton County Sheriff's Office reported a two-vehicle crash shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Chestnut Street at the Five Point Intersection.

Authorities said Jennifer Elliott, 30, of Fresno, was traveling east on Main Street when she attempted to turn left onto North 11th Street. She failed to yield to oncoming traffic from Chestnut Street and was struck by Rebecca Yates, 59, of Altamont, Illinois.

Yates was transported to Coshocton Regional Medical Center for complaint type injuries. Elliott was treated and released on scene. Assisting on scene were Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services and the Coshocton Fire Department.

Safety Town returning

COSHOCTON − Coshocton County Safety Town will be held from June 14 to 22 weekdays at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds with classes from 10 a.m. to noon or 6 to 8 p.m.

Children entering kindergarten will have different training sessions daily related to bicycle safety, fire safety and more.

Cost is $20 per child with a discount for children of first responders on in the military. Register by contacting Angie Moses at 740-502-4332 or coop9097@yahoo.com.

Additionally, learn to swim classes for children ages 6 and up will be from July 10 to 21 and July 24 to Aug. 4 at the Lake Park Aquatic Center. Cost is $65 per child with some discounts available.

Locals named to dean's list at OSU-Newark

NEWARK − Named to the full-time students dean's list for the spring semester at Ohio State University at Newark were Ava Bice and Peter Brauning of Dresden, Brandon Kittle of Frazeysburg, Cassidy Dulgar and Ryan Weaver of Warsaw and Rachelle Courtright, Melanie Giffin, Bell Justice and Paige Slusser of Coshocton.

Named to the part-time dean's list were Charity Clark and Arpen Parekh of Dresden and Cabot Little of Newcomerstown.

Reservations for Cy Young luncheon

NEWCOMERSTOWN − Reservations are being taken for the annual luncheon part of the Cy Young Days Festival. The lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. June 24 at Laborers Local 134 Hall, 150 N. River St., Newcomerstown. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Special guest will be 2003 Cy Young Award winner Eric Gagne, who was a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the time. You may bring your own items for Gagne to sign, limited one per person.

Cost is $25 for adults and $12 for children under age 12. Reservations can be made by calling 740-227-1544 or emailing chaney.janet8@gmail.com.

Gagne will also be grand marshal of the parade at 6 p.m. and signing souvenir cards afterwards at the Olde Main Street Museum. Go to cyyoungdaysfestival.com for more information and a schedule of events.

Adult scholarships offered

COSHOCTON − The Coshocton Foundation is offering scholarships for non-traditional adult students.

Currently accepting applications are the Ruby S. Hawthorne Memorial Adult Scholarship with no restrictions, Ruth Schooler Memorial Adult Scholarship for those studying business or a related area, Beulah Brownfield Memorial Scholarship for any school or major and Kenneth Berry Memorial Adult Scholarship. All for $1,000. The Berry Scholarship is renewable and the recipient from last year is renewing for a second year.

Deadline to apply is 4 p.m. June 30 through coshoctonfoundation.org.
