Bridge replacement on Bagley Road

ZANESVILLE — The Muskingum County Engineers Office has announced that Bagley Road will be closed for six weeks starting July 5 for a bridge replacement from Wesley Chapel Road to Ridgley Road.

Camp Canopy awards scholarships

ZANESVILLE — The Ohio Forestry Association Foundation recently presents $7,750 in scholarships during Camp Canopy at Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum.

Bryce Papp received $1,000 from the Ohio Forestry Association Foundation, Lily McGraw got $1,250 from Ohio State University, Aaron Sweitzer earned $1,000 from OSU, Sam Cox for highest exam score got $1,000 from Hocking College, Devin Lanave also received $1,000 from Hocking College, Alex Bzdafka and Addison Woerner earned $1,000 each from Zane State College and Adam Burse got $500 from the North East Ohio Forestry Association.

Campers during the event learned forestry and wildlife skills like tree identification, wildlife management, silviculture, ecology and forestry forensics. Exams were administered Friday of the camp and the highest scores received college scholarships if they wished to pursue a degree in forestry, wildlife or environmental science.

Alumni club makes donations

ZANESVILLE — The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Muskingum County recently made a $100 donation with an additional $205 from club members to the Friends of Dillon State Park. The organization's goal is to promote and enhance Dillon State Park facilities and provide services to the community by offering opportunities for the public to discover the natural and cultural history of the area. A cleanup session was held after a check presentation.

The club will also present scholarships during the annual full membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at VFW Post 1058, 1318 Putnam Ave. For incoming freshmen, Madison Byus of West Muskingum High School will receive $1,600 for being the top rated student and Emma Conkle of Zanesville High School will receive $1,000.

Current OSU students getting $1,000 are Ethan Garrett, Vanessa Chilcoat, Lacie Noland, Cameron McCullough, Karleigh Dudas and Reagan Whittaker.

BPW awards scholarships

ZANESVILLE — The Zanesville Business and Professional Women's Club recently awarded Elliott Scholarships to Tesfanesh McClelland of New Concord and Sara Blake of Zanesville. McClelland is a student at Ashland University and Blake goes to Ohio University.

John Conlee performing for OVO

MCCONNELSVILLE — Country music legend John Conlee will be performing for the Ohio Valley Opry at 4 and 8 p.m. July 16 at the Twin City Opera House, 15 W. Main St., McConnelsville.

Conlee had 27 top 40 country hits in the 1970s and 1980s with seven number ones. Memorable songs include "Rose Colored Glasses," "Lady Lay Down," "Backside of Thirty," "Common Man," "In My Eyes," "Working Man" and "Busted."

Also performing are the Clark and Sigler families, Matt Coleman, Mike Morrison and the OVO Staff Band. Tickets for $20 are available at ohiovalleyopry.com.

'School House Rock' songs performed at CAC

NEW LEXINGTON — A musical theater workshop showcase featuring songs from "School House Rock" will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Perry County Calvary Arts Center, 447 S. Main St., New Lexington.

Musical Director is Roger Dusenberry with choreography by Meagan Mason and set pieces designed by Barb Zartman. Cast features Lillie Cannon, Thaddeus McCord, Addison Scott, Caden Rollins, Madison Hillis, Ada Thatcher and Essie Thatcher. Cost is $5.

Gratiot UMC to hold VBS

GRATIOT — A vacation Bible school with the theme Shake It Up will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 17 to 22 at Gratiot United Methodist Church, for those age 3 to eighth grade.

Baughman chosen for fellowship program

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Bar Foundation recently inducted 15 attorneys into its fellows program.

Part of the class is Jan Allen Baughman of Allen & Baughman, Attorneys at Law. The graduate of Capital University Law School is a member of the Perry County, Muskingum County and Ohio State bar associations. She has served on the state bar's board of governors and council of delegates.

Her volunteer experience includes working at the Muskingum County Domestic Relations Court Pro Bono Clinic to serving on numerous community boards such as the Perry County Children’s Services Board, the Perry County Economic Development Committee, the Main Street Mediation Board and the House of Samuel.
