Planning commission gets grant

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Planning Commission recently received $400,000 from the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund and Cleanup Grant program.

The money will be used to conduct 11 environmental site assessments, inventory and prioritize brownfield sites, develop five cleanup plans and support community outreach activities. The target area for this funding is Zanesville.

Summer movies at Restoration Park

ZANESVILLE − Free movie nights will be this summer at Restoration Park, 252 Muskingum Ave. Activities start at 6:30 p.m. with movies at dusk.

There will be movies, games and art projects for all ages along with the Hamp Camper Hot Dogs food truck. Movies are "Up" on June 9, "The Pink Panther" on July 14 and "DC League of Super-Pets" on Aug. 11.

Committees meetings canceled

ZANESVILLE − The public safety and crime and violence committees of Zanesville City Council have canceled scheduled meetings for June 5.

Hydrants being checked

ZANESVILLE − The City of Zanesville will be flushing fire hydrants from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the general area of Talley, Echo and Westwood drives and Pine, Seborn, Maysville, Alfred, New York and Arch streets, along with all related side streets.

Residents may experience low water pressure and discoloration and should refrain from doing laundry until after 4 p.m.

Locals achieve at Grove City College

GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA − Eve Davis of Nashport has been named to the spring semester dean's list with distinction at Grove City College. The Tri-Valley High School graduate and daughter of Luke and Ruth Davis is majoring in history and social studies with a secondary education certification.

Janessa Dawson of Zanesville was named to the dean's list with high distinction. The graduate of Tri-Valley High School and daughter of Troy and Janeen Dawson is majoring in biology/health.

Both also graduated from college during spring commencement.

Holmes legislation passes house

COLUMBUS − Rep. Adam Holmes (R-Nashport) had a resolution for the State of Ohio to observe the United States Semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026, unanimously pass the Ohio House of Representatives.

Events will be planned, developed and coordinated through the Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial, which was established during the 134th General Assembly. Holmes is a member of the commission.

Locals join honor societies

MARIETTA − Sydni Wilson of East Fultonham was recently inducted into the Sigma Delta Pi National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society and Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society at Marietta College.

Gabriel Hehr of Zanesville was also inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha. The Tri-Valley high school graduate is majoring in finance.

Siarra Hoover of Frazeysburg was inducted into the Mortar Board National Honor Society recently at Ohio Wesleyan University.

MVESC board to meet

NEW LEXINGTON − The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center Governing Board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday at the Perry County office, 1605 Airport Road, New Lexington.

Mid-East BOE having session

SENECAVILLE − The Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. June 12 at the Buffalo Campus, 57090 Vocational Road, Senecaville.

Law Library board to meet

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Law Library Resource Board will meet at noon June 23 at the library, 22 N. Fifth St.
