Local News Briefs: Concert in the Park series opening

City Band opens 2022 season

The Cambridge City Band will open its 2022 season of the Concert in the Park series at 7:30 p.m. June 02 under the big pavilion at the Cambridge City Park. The band draws members from several surrounding communities and performs free concerts at the park every other Thursday at 7:30 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Seating is provided under the pavilion but guests can bring lawn chairs and sit under the trees adjacent to the pavilion. Thursday’s concert will feature music from movies that include “Love Story,” “Cabaret,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” and “Doctor Zhivago,” among others.

Turkey season harvest report

Ohio wild turkey hunters harvested 11,872 birds during the spring season that concluded on Sunday, May 29. All hunters were required to check in their harvest using the game-check system. The top 10 counties for wild turkey harvest during the 2022 season: Ashtabula (348), Tuscarawas (338), Belmont (314), Guernsey (312), Columbiana (309), Harrison (299), Muskingum (298), Trumbull (295), Jefferson (292), and Gallia (280).

CIC meeting Friday

There will be a meeting of the Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) at 8 a.m. on Friday in the County Administration Building, first-floor conference room, 627 Wheeling Ave.

Ludwig inducted into honor society

Carleigh Ludwig of New Concord was inducted into the Baldwin Wallace Legal Studies Honor Society in the spring 2022 semester. Ludwig is a graduate of John Glenn High School majoring in public health.

Cambridge glass show

The 2022 Glass Show & Sale will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 24 and from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center. Admission is $5 and is good for both days.

Lewton joins LMI Custom Mixing

Bailey Lewton has joined LMI Custom Mixing as a continuous improvement engineer for the Cambridge custom polymer mixing facility.

Lewton graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a bachelor in business administration and management in 2016. Prior to joining LMI, he served as a field service manager of Miller Weldmaster headquartered in Navarre, Ohio.

CARA to discuss field day

The Cambridge Amateur Radio Association will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Guernsey County Administration Building. The main topic of discussion will be ARRL Field Day on June 25-26 at the Highland Township Grove Park in the Bloomfield area.

Mid-East board meeting on Monday

The Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Commons at the Buffalo Campus, 57090 Vocational Road, Senecaville.

Free dinner in Freeport

Freeport United Methodist Church, 222 South High Street, is hosting a free dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The menu includes barbeque chicken quarters, ham, two sides, dessert and a drink.
