New Concord gets state funding

COLUMBUS − The Office of Gov. Mike DeWine has announced $35 million in Ohio First Responder Recruitment, Retention and Resilience Program grants to 309 agencies to address first responder burnout caused by understaffing and job stress. This includes $42,830.90 to New Concord Police and Fire departments.

Funding supports initiatives such as wellness programs addressing mental, physical, and emotional health issues unique to first responders; recruitment and retention efforts to restore workforce levels; onboarding and training costs; and explorer programs to engage young adults about first responder careers.

Youth Foundation taking applicants

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Community Youth Foundation is accepting applications for new members for the coming school year. Applicants must be attending a Muskingum County high school or be a homeschooled student living in Muskingum County. Preference is giving to freshmen and sophomores.

The application asks for a personal statement on what qualities the applicant believes makes them a good fit for CYF. Additionally, the applicant must list all current and recent extracurricular and volunteer activities. Two recommendations are required from non-family members adults who known the applicant at least six months. Finalists will be interviewed in October.

Chamber of Commerce luncheon upcoming

NEW LEXINGTON − The Perry County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon will be at noon Aug. 15 at Trotters, 123 N. Main St., New Lexington.

Guest speaker is Kristin Glasure, president and CEO of Fairhope Hospice of Lancaster, and she will talk about hospice fundamentals.

Back to School Bash at fairgrounds

NEW LEXINGTON − The 14th annual Back to School Bash will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Perry County Fairgrounds in New Lexington. There will be a DJ, snacks, activities, school supplies and more.

Try-It Day at Tecumseh Lake

SHAWNEE − A Try-It Day will be Aug. 26 at Tecumseh Lake in Shawnee. Fishing will be 9 to 11 a.m. and kayak and canoeing will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments and prizes will be provided by Perry County Job and Family Services Mobility Management.

Spotted lanternfly in Muskingum County

REYNOLDSBURG − Muskingum County has been added to the spotted lanternfly regulated area, meaning infestations have been confirmed and inspections increased.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is asking the public to report any sighting or damage to the agency by filling out the Ohio Plant Pest Reporter. A clear photo is required for submissions.

Culvert replacement on Ohio 146

JACKSONTOWN − Ohio 146 will be closed near Chandlersville between Ohio 284 and Pryor Road Monday for a culvert replacement.
