Local News Briefs: Extension office offering food preservation classes

Food preservation classes starting

COSHOCTON — The Ohio State University Extension Office of Coshocton County are holding classes on food preservation related to canning, freezing and other methods.

Making pickles will be June 9 in Room 110 of the Coshocton County Services Building and making salsa will be July 7 at Lock Landing at Roscoe Village. Both classes are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and are instructed by Emily Marrison. Register at go.osu.edu/coshfoodpreservation2022. Cost is $5.

Savoring Ohio Production webinar series are also being offered for free throughout the summer. Register at go.osu.edu/2022foodpreservationwebinarseries. The online classes are 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. Onions and herbs are May 31, greens are June 14, beans are June 28, peaches are July 26, corn is Aug. 9, melon is Aug. 23, broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower are Sept. 6 and potatoes are Sept. 20.

Free testing of pressure canner gauges will be from 9 to 11 a.m. June 18 at Auer Ace Hardware, 1961 Otsego Ave. Testing is also available at the extension office by calling 740-622-2265 for an appointment.

Warsaw Alumni banquet set

WARSAW — The Warsaw Alumni Association's 112th alumni banquet will be Aug. 20 at Coshocton Christian Tabernacle, 23891 Airport Road.

Ten scholarships totaling $12,000 will be announced going to graduating seniors from River View High School. Honor classes are 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, 1962 and River View Class of 1967.

Dinner reservations are limited to the first 150 and are due by Aug. 6. Cost is $20, covering meal and dues. Food by Schumaker Catering will be ham loaf, cheesy potatoes, California blend vegetables, cole slaw, cherry cobbler with ice cream and beverage.

Registration forms will be mailed in early June. Those who don't receive forms may contact Jim Lawrence at 740-295-9579 or Bee Lehner at 740-502-1492. Also available will be "A History of the Coshocton County Basketball League and Tournaments" for $25 going to the scholarship fund.

Board of Revision to meet

COSHOCTON The Coshocton County Board of Revision will meet via Zoom at 12:30 p.m. May 23 and June 1 and 12:45 p.m. June 2 and 3. The previously announced June 17 dates has been dropped. Hearings will be available for public viewing and archived on the county's YouTube channel. For more information, call 740-622-1243.

Services at Waggoner Cemetery

WEST LAFAYETTE — The Friends of Waggoner Cemetery will have its annual memorial services at 12:30 p.m. May 22 in the cemetery at Oxford Township Road 474, West Lafayette.

Pastor Matt Anderson of West Lafayette United Methodist Church will preside and Newcomerstown Veterans organizations will provide the honor guard. Guest speaker will be attorney Andrew King, candidate for the 5th District Court of Appeals.

A covered dish luncheon will follow at River Greens Gold Course in the banquet room. Table service, coffee and other beverages will be provided. In case of bad weather, the entire program will be in the banquet room.

Fillimon gets scholarship

WARSAW — Bradley Fillimon of Walhonding has received the Sue Hawthorne Norris Memorial Scholarship. The graduating senior of River view High School plans to major in secondary education at Ohio State University. The scholarship is awarded through Coshocton County Dollars of Scholars.
