Local News Briefs: Flight 93 flag flying at the courthouse

McKim requested Flight 93 flag while visiting memorial

A flag provided by David McKim of Guernsey County honoring the victims of the United Airlines Flight 93 will fly at the county courthouse this weekend.

McKim said he saw a large jet flying overhead that seems to be in trouble on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, while near the Cambridge City Park duck pond. Soon after he learned Flight 93 was commandeered by terrorists and crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pa. McKim traveled to Shanksville last year to visit the memorial and learned cellphone tower pings from passengers were recorded over the eastern portion of Cambridge.

"While at the memorial, I had the chance to speak with a family member of one of the passengers and mentioned an idea about flying the Flight 93 flag here in Cambridge. So I'm happy that our invitation for the Flight 93 flag to be flown at our courthouse could be made possible to honor the memory of those aboard and their families," McKim said.

"The gentleman who provided the flag requested I pass along a thank you to the city of Cambridge for remembering them."
