EPA gives mosquito control grants

COSHOCTON − The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded $816,000 in grants for mosquito control activities, including $127,000 for scrap tire removal, as tired can be breeding grounds for mosquito larvae. The Perry County Health Department received $23,170, Morgan County Health Department got $12,800 and the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department received $6,150.

Perry County Airport receives grant

WASHINGTON D.C. − The Perry County Airport received $53,600 to shift or reconfigure the existing taxiway from a recent round of grants through the Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Locals participate in theater camp

NEW CONCORD − A showcase performance for the summer high school music theater camp being held at Muskingum University will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Caldwell Hall. A reception will follow.

The camp features 34 students from freshmen to seniors from 22 different schools. Local students include Emily Abrams, Kole Williams and Tanner Caudill of John Glenn; Jackie Connell of Bishop Rosecrans; Addy Miller, Sara Waggle and Taven Shirkey of Tri-Valley; and Minh-Lian Scott and Minh-Phuong Scott of Philo.

Students participated in a week of musical training that includes daily dance classes, private voice instruction, acting sessions with improvisation, master classes and scene study. Evening recreational activities of square dancing, swimming and movie musicals rounds out the week. Students will perform scenes from many different Broadway musicals.

Woerner gets forestry scholarship

ZANESVILLE − Addison Woerner of Nashport received a $1,000 Ohio Forestry Association Foundation scholarship from the Ohio Forestry Foundation as part of its annual Camp Canopy program. Scholarships went to students pursuing a major related to forestry, wildlife or environmental sciences.

Locals graduate UF

FINDLAY − Rachel Cooke of Thornville, Katie Greiner of Zanesville and Avery Oliver of Mount Perry recently earned bachelor's degrees from the University of Findlay. Cooke majored in psychology, Greiner in adolescent/young adult integrated social studies and Oliver in animal science.

Watts achieves in college

ZANESVILLE − Hannah Watts of Zanesville was named to the spring president's list with a 4.0 grade point average at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina.

Port Authority board meeting upcoming

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority board will meet in regular session at 10 a.m. June 21 at the Welcoming Center, 205 N. Fifth St.

East Muskingum BOE to meet

NEW CONCORD − East Muskingum Local Schools Board of Education will meet in special session at 9 a.m. June 29 at the district office, 13505 John Glenn School Road, New Concord. The purpose is to approve revenue and appropriations for the end of the fiscal year and other items.

Northern Local BOE having meeting

THORNVILLE − The Northern Local Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 7:30 a.m. June 26 in the board room of the administration center, 8700 Sheridan Road, Thornville.

"Charlotte's Web" at Calvary Arts Center

NEW LEXINGTON − A presentation of "Charlotte's Web" will be at 7 p.m. June 30 at the Perry County Calvary Arts Center, 447 S. Main St., New Lexington. Tickets are $3 each at the door.
