Juneteenth Celebration planned

ZANESVILLE — The Nelson T. Gant Foundation will have an inaugural Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom from 4 to 10 p.m. June 18, at the Gant House, 1845 W. Main St.

The event will include live performances, music, educational activities and an array of black-owned vendors. Food will include fried fish dinners, barbecue chicken sliders, desserts and soda bar. For more information, contact Brenda Curtis at 740-562-9285 or brenbrennj@aol.com.

Classic play presented by ZCT

ZANESVILLE — "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde will be presented at 8 p.m. May 27 and 28 and June 3 and 4 and 2:30 p.m. May 29 and June 5 at the Zanesville Community Theatre, 940 Findley Ave.

The cast includes Steven Hendershott, Jared Gantzer, Samson Arthur, Lura Brannon, Sarah Gantzer, Reagan Dygert, Haley Shaw, Scott Robison and Phil Sakal.

Dawson makes dean's list

GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA — Janessa Dawson of Zanesville was named to the spring semester dean's list at Grove City College.

New scholarship focuses on journalism

ZANESVILLE — The Muskingum County Community Foundation and Scholarship Central has announced a new scholarship fund for 2023.

The Muskingum County Journalism Scholarship will provide scholarships to five graduating seniors of Muskingum County high schools or current college students graduated from a Muskingum County high school pursuing a degree in journalism or a related field such as public relations or communications.

The scholarship was established by farmer Lester Little of Dresden, who respects journalists seeking the truth and reporting it.

The fund has enough money for winners for the next five years and donations are sought for the future. Go to mccf.org for more information.

Work on Main Street set

The City of Zanesville has announced that Main Street will be restricted to one lane from Second Street to the Y Bridge from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for repairs related to a water main break. Signs and barrels will be posted and motorists are urged to use caution in the area.
