No delay for city trash pickup for Labor Day

ZANESVILLE − The City of Zanesville has announced there will be no delay next week on trash collection despite the Labor Day holiday. Collection will run on its regular schedule.

Sobriety checkpoint held on Saturday

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office and Zanesville Police Department held an operating a vehicle impaired checkpoint Saturday evening on Northpointe Drive, near Ohio 60.

It was funded by a federal grant and was intended to deter and intercept impaired drivers. It was held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols.

There were more than 90 drivers checked for impairment with the average interaction time at 30 seconds. There was an impaired driver arrest along with felony drug arrests and traffic citations issued.

Neurosurgeon joins Genesis

ZANESVILLE − Dr. Steven Fulop has joined the Genesis Medical Group, specializing in neurosurgery.

He received his doctorate of medicine from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Cleveland/MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Fulop is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He performs spinal procedures including arthroplasty, thoracic and lumbar decompression and minimally invasive procedures.

Chalfant Church having homecoming

DRESDEN − An annual homecoming will be Sept. 10 at Chalfant Church on County Road 439 in Dresden. A carry-in dinner is at 1 p.m. with a program at 2 p.m. Rev. Lester Taylor, who attended the church in his youth, will be the guest speaker.

KENT − Kent State University has announced graduates for the spring semester. Overdose awareness event on Thursday

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is holding the third annual Overdose Awareness Day with a prevention and remembrance event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Muskingum County Courthouse.

Guest speakers will include Zanesville Police Chief Scott Comstock, Genesis Community Ambulance Assistant Chief Joshua Binkley and Tessie Wilson.

The event will also feature flowerpot decorating, Locks of Love placement, an in memory banner, Narcan training and music by Adonis.
