Local News Briefs: Oxford and Freedom roads closing for culvert replacement

Road closure notices

  • Oxford Road (County Road 962) will be closed between Lough Road (Oxford Twp. Road 6979) and Basket Road (County Road 691) from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday for culvert replacement.

  • Freedom Road (County Road 851) will be closed daily from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Birmingham Road (County Road 71) and Broadhead Road (County Road 585) from Monday through Thursday or culvert replacement. The exact closure location will change as crews move along the road.

Y Camp for All registration open

The YMCA's Y Camp for All registration is open. There are three camps available: Splash and Swim from June 27 to July 1, Story and Stage from July 11 to July 15, and Grounded and Growing from Aug. 1 to Aug. 5.

Splash and Swim camp is for ages 5 to 10. Participants explore the water and learn to swim. A portion of the camp will be spent on land learning self-determination skills. Story and Stage camp is for ages 5 to 13. Students will explore a book throughout the week-long camp and finish with a play about the story. Grounded and Growing is for ages 5 to 13. Campers will learn about nutrition, yoga and mindfulness.

Trustees to open Bugos Lane bids

The Wills Township Trustees will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 27 at the township garage, Salesville. Bids for the Bugos Lane project will be opened and reviewed. To be added to the agenda call 740-584-5713

Students named to dean's list

Savanaugh Erin Anderson of Cambridge, Jamie Betts, of Barnesville, Alysa Jane Edwards-Frick of Duncan Falls, JayLynn Marie McClarren, of Cambridge, Chase Thomas Nolan of Belmont, Jack William Parry of Lore City, and Christopher Chase Westfall of Belmont were named to the spring dean's list at Wheeling University.

Public meeting in Byesville

The Village of Byesville will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Byesville Village Hall to discuss the project details of the Marietta Road Sewer Extension project. The Legislative Community for the Byesville Village Council will meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the Byesville Village Hall.

GCCS board meeting change

Guernsey County Children Services Board will meet will at 1 p.m. on July 5 at the Children Services complex, 274 Highland Ave., Cambridge. This is a change from the normal date of July 4.

Kumler graduates St. Lawrence

Erin Kumler of New Concord recently graduated cum laude from St. Lawrence University with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry.

Cumberland vacation Bible school

Blue Rock Baptist Church, High Hill Presbyterian Church, and Ark Spring Baptist Church will present a vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 10 through Thursday, July 14 at the Blue Rock Baptist Church, 7835 Wion Ridge Road. Dinner will be served.

Recycling trailer schedule for Cumberland

The SouthEastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District recycling trailer will be in Cumberland on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 7 and 8, at Spencer Township Building on Mill Street. Do not place trash in the trailer or leave items on the ground next to the trailer. The recycling trailer’s schedule is subject to change.

The following local students recently earned degrees at Marietta College.

  • Colton Neptune of New Concord graduated summa cum laude with a degree in petroleum engineering. Neptune is a graduate of John Glenn High School.

  • Koby Berger of Cambridge graduated magna cum laude with a degree in petroleum engineering. Berger is a graduate of Cambridge High School.

  • Danyel Dimmerling of Sarahsville earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. Dimmerling is a graduate of Shenandoah High School.

  • Danielle Stewart of Barnesville earned a bachelor degree in political science. Stewart is a graduate of Barnesville High School.

  • Tyler Walker of New Concord graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in history. Walker is a graduate of John Glenn High School.
