Muskingum University holding Relay for Life

NEW CONCORD − Several student organizations at Muskingum University are combining to host a Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society from 2 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 on the school's outdoor track.

The event will feature opening and closing ceremonies, hourly activities and a survivors ceremony at 6 p.m. There will be live music, food trucks and activities for kids throughout the day.

Community members can donate to teams or purchase a luminaria, which will be decorated and lit by candlelight to display during the survivors ceremony. Those from the community are also welcome to form their own teams.

Chamber luncheon planned

NEW LEXINGTON − The Perry County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon will be at noon Oct. 18 at The Gathering Place, 323 W. Broadway, New Lexington. Guest speaker will be Dr. Corey Jackson, orthopedic surgeon with the Genesis Orthopedic Group.

Locals make dean's list at Columbus State

COLUMBUS − Several local students were named to the summer semester dean's list at Columbus State Community College.

They included Brad Goldrick of Crooksville, James Fogle of Cumberland, Grayce Brannon of Duncan Falls, Alexis Brady of Junction City, Zane Paisley of Nashport, Joshua Liff of New Lexington, Laura Miller of Somerset, Trinity Nobles and Avi Richman of Thornville and Morten Bach, Michael Buchholz, Kiley Devoll and Alyscia Pew of Zanesville.

Those graduating during the summer semester were Laura Miller of Somerset, Todd Henry of Nashport and Avi Richman of Thornville. Richman and Henry graduated magna cum laude.

New art exhibition opens at Zanesville Museum of Art

ZANESVILLE − "Collectors Among Us - A Celebration of Community Giving" opens Oct. 20 at the Zanesville Museum of Art in the Great Gallery on the second floor.

The exhibition of works from the permanent collection share a unique history and provenance. This temporary exhibition explores the collectors among us who helped shape the museum’s unique art collection.

Items include an image of artist Howard Chandler Christy taken by Jane Reece, a unique stoneware jug from the short-lived Anna Pottery and a World War I soldier’s uniform.

A public opening will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 with refreshments and live music from Evan Abood.

Dr. Shaina Schochat joins Genesis Primary Care

ZANESVILLE − Dr. Shaina Schochat has joined Genesis Primary Care, specializing in internal medicine.

She earned a doctorate of medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton and completed her residency in internal medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Schochat has more than five years of experience as a primary chare physician at IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians in Bedford, Indiana and IU Health Physicians in Indianapolis. She is board certified in internal medicine and a is a member of the American Medical Association and America College of Physicians.

Her office is at Genesis Primary Care, 1210 Ashland Ave. and can be reached by calling 740-454-0370.

Blood drives planned

ZANESVILLE − Several American Red Cross blood drives are scheduled upcoming in the local area.

Drives are from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at East Muskingum Middle School in New Concord, 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at American Legion Post 71 in Roseville, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 31 at Secrest Auditorium and 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Adamsville Community Center.

Other drives will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Perry County Board of Developmental Disabilities in New Lexington and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 22 at the American Legion Hall in Junction City. A drive will be from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Malta United Church in the youth building.
