Road work set for Maple Avenue

ZANESVILLE — The City of Zanesville has announced land closures for Maple Avenue from May 17 to 20 for permanent repairs from damage caused by a water main break in the 2700 block of Maple Avenue.

Southbound lands will be closed from Bell Street to Harding Road and be redirected via the center lane. The northbound land will remain open. Motorists should expect delays and are urged to avoid the area.

Genesis receives cancer grant

ZANESVILLE — Genesis Cancer Services recently received a $5,000 transportation grant from the American Cancer Society.

Patients in need of transportation assistance will receive gas cards to offset their cost of getting to and from their appointments and treatment at the Genesis Cancer Care Center.

Genesis was one of 400 health systems receiving a total of $5.7 million in grants. Based on previous grants, more than 228,000 rides will be provided to nearly 17,000 people.

Locals place in beef exhibitor show

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Cattlemen's Association Beef Exhibitor Show Total (BEST) program was recently held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus with more than 808 exhibitors. Youth were awarded for their show success, cattle industry knowledge, photography skills, community service efforts and more.

Jordan Fitz place third and Brade Wright was fifth overall in the novice stockman division. Wright was also first overall in the novice showman division, ninth for novice market animal and ninth for overall market heifer. Kailyn Mattis had the champion AOB steer. Elizabeth Gibson was fourth overall for crossbred heifer. Chase Boring was fourth for crossbred steer. All are from Perry County.

Bristol Bates was 10th overall for beginner showman. Harrison Sutphen was third overall in the shorthorn plus heifer category. Mackenzie Bromley was fifth overall in the crossbred heifer division. All are from Muskingum County.

ZMHA financial statements for review

ZANESVILLE — The Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority's unaudited financial statements for 2021 are available for review from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the board office, 407 Pershing Road.

Port Authority to meet

ZANESVILLE — The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority will meet in regular session at 10 a.m. May 18 at the Welcome Center, 205 N. Fifth St.

ZCT to hold lock-in night

ZANESVILLE — Zanesville Community Theatre will hold a lock-in night for youth ages 10 and up from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday at the theater, 940 Findley Ave. There will be movies, activities and breakfast. Cost is $50 and tickets are available online through the theater's website.

OUZ celebrates anniversary

ZANESVILLE — Ohio University Zanesville will be celebrating its 75th anniversary from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the branch campus, 1425 Newark Road.

There will be music by Matt Frampton from 3 to 4 p.m. and The Wayfarers from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The event will also include food trucks, campus tours, a cruise-in and a family activity trail. Go to ohio.edu/zanesville/75th-anniversary for more information.

Dollar General gives literacy funding

ZANESVILLE — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded $300,000 in literacy grants to non-profit organizations in Ohio.

Locally, this included $3,000 to the Muskingum County Library System and $2,000 to the Norther Local School District in Perry County.
