Hardesty Road closed for bridge work

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Engineer's Office has announced that Hardesty Road will be closed for 21 days starting Monday from Southern Road to Clay Pike Road for a bridge replacement.

Food truck rally upcoming

ZANESVILLE − The annual Zanesville Jaycees Food Truck Rally will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Zane's Landing.

Vendors will include All Star Shakeups, Bobsts Kettle Corn, C&R Wells Creations, Freedom Fries, The Funnel Cake Station, K&D Concession, Kingdom Coffee, La Carne Italian, Leaf Home Water Solutions, LeMacaron French Pastries, Schmidt's Sausage Truck, Smitty's BBQ, Smoke Therapy, The Jersey Way, The Crazy Kitchen, Uncle Dan's Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Yardbirds Wings. There will also be GellyBall from Neo Extreme Games.

River cleanup set for Saturday

ZANESVILLE − The second annual Pea Ohana Watersports River Cleanup will be from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, in conjunction with River Rangers International, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, City of Zanesville, Paddle for Heroes and American Rivers.

Cleaned will be a four-mile stretch from Dillon Falls public access on the Licking River near the Dillon Falls Community Fire Station to Putnam Landing on the Muskingum River. There will also be dry land cleanup opportunities at Dillon Falls, Lock 10 and Putnam Landing.

Free shuttle transportation will be provided for those with their own kayaks and canoes. Kayaks can also be rented from Pea Ohana for use. More information can be found on the business' website.

Block party planned

ZANESVILLE − A block party hosted by Lepi & Associates Real Estate Services as a kickoff to summer will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 25 at 1257 Maple Ave. The event will feature DJ Adonis, Jamie's Street Kitchen food truck and a beer garden by the West Muskingum Boosters.

Gratiot having yard sales

GRATIOT − Gratiot Community Yard Sales will be part of National Road Yard Sale Days June 2 and 3. Food will be served at Gratiot United Methodist Church, 345 South St. Call Karla Jones for more information at 740-877-5758.

Church to hold sale

ZANESVILLE − An attic treasures and basement sale will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9 and 10 at First United Methodist Church, 857 Putnam Ave. All proceeds will go toward the church budget.

The church also has a free store open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. It also has a homeless shelter at night. For more information call the church at 740-452-7117.

Abbot Home to have media sale

ZANESVILLE – A spring book and media sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 25 at Abbot Senior Living, 1258 Greenwood Ave.

Proceeds will provide entertainment and other special events for residents. Items for sale include gently used books, CDs, DVDs, albums, games and puzzles. For more information, call 740-453-2781.

ZANESVILLE − The Zane State College Board of Trustees will meet in regular session at 5 p.m. May 22 via Zoom.

Tri-Valley BOE changes meeting date

DRESDEN − The Tri-Valley Local Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. June 27, at the administrative center, 36 E. Muskingum Ave., Dresden. This is a date change from originally announced.

Zanesville man wins photo contest

COLUMBUS − Jason A. Hammond of Zanesville recently won first place in the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Ohio State Parks and Watercraft Photo Contest. The photo titled "Early Morning Paddle in an Old Canoe" was taken at Burr Oak Lake.

In the submission, Hammond said, “The photo is special to me because it's of me and my daughter experiencing the peace and solitude of nature in a cedar and canvas canoe that was my father's. Many years ago, I restored it for him and upon his death I got it back. My dad loved being outdoors so in a way it was like he was there too.”

Locals named to leadership society

MARIETTA − Parker Dinan and Karsan Ross of Nashport and Sydni Wilson of East Fultonham were inducted into the National Society for Leadership and Success at Marietta College.

Dinan is majoring in biochemistry, Ross in educational studies and Wilson in political science and Spanish. Dinan and Wilson graduated from Tri-Valley High School and Wilson is a Maysville High School graduate.

Music scholarships awarded

ZANESVILLE − Matthew Baldwin, Joseph Barnhouse, Theoren Chevalier, Truett Howell, Marlee Lawson, Clay Pennington, Lucas Reutz and Rachelle Snyder have received music scholarships for 2023 from the Katherine B. Geis Musical Fund.

Additional community grants from the fund were given to the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band and Central Trinity United Methodist Church for the Zanesville Civic Chorus.
