Times Recorder earns AP award nominations

COLUMBUS − The Zanesville Times Recorder received nine nominations in Division II for the 2022 Ohio Association Press Media Editors Awards.

Chris Crook was nominated for best business writer, best photographer, best news writer and best photo story for for Zanesville Memorial Day events. Sam Blackburn was nominated for best sports feature writer and best sports columnist. Former TR reporter and current reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer Eric Couch was nominated for best feature writer and best news writer. The TR was also nominated for best digital presence.

The winners will be announced in May.

Engineer's office announces road closures

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Engineers Office has announced two road closures from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday to Friday.

Southern Road will be closed from Hardesty Road to South Cove Lane to repair a road slip. Norfield Road will be closed from Lodge Road to New Hope Road for culvert replacements.

PUCO to hold local meeting

ZANESVILLE − The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will have an in-person meeting at 6 p.m. April 26 at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Conference and Welcome Center, 205 N. Fifth St. The meeting is in regard to the American Electric Power of Ohio's application for an electric security plan.

The company has filed an application for an electric security plan for the supply of “standard service offer” electric generation and other related matters for the period of June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2030. Standard service offer, sometimes known as the default rate, is the price for electric generation service for customers that do not participate in a government aggregation program or select a retail electric supplier on their own.

Career Connections Camp planned

ZANESVILLE − The Muskingum County Social Justice Coalition is having its second annual Career Connections Camp from June 5 to 9. It's open to for up to 25 African-American students from Muskingum County entering eighth grade next school year.

Students will attend college campus tours, local industry visits from Muskingum County businesses, learn encouraging and real stories from local entrepreneurs and participate in hands-on skill development activities. The camp is free to all participants and includes meals, materials and transportation to and from their home and all activities. Everyone who completes the camp will receive an iPad and opportunities to participate in post-camp shadowing or brief internships.

Drug take back and wellness fair at Kroger

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville Kroger at 3387 Maple Ave. will have a wellness fair and drug take back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Local law enforcement officers will be on site to accept unused or expired pills, liquids, gels and patches justoutside the store. The wellness fair will offer a variety of health services such as vaccine administration, screenings, healthy food sampling and fun activities for kids.
