State Street restricted for work

ZANESVILLE − The City of Zanesville has announced that State Street will be restricted to one lane Thursday and Friday from Willow Street to Licking Road for bridge repairs. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers, but motorists should expect delays.

Zanesville OHP post celebrating 90 years

ZANESVILLE − The Zanesville Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol will have an open house to celebrate its 90th anniversary from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the post, 3760 East Pike.

The event will feature SRT and K-9 demonstrations, the crime scene unit and light refreshments.

Red Cross blood drives scheduled upcoming

ZANESVILLE − The American Red Cross will be having several blood drives upcoming in the local area.

Drives will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at West Muskingum High School, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19 and 1 to 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26 at Muskingum University in New Concord, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28 at Maysville High School and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at North Terrace Church of Christ.

Other drives will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at Miller High School in Corning and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Crooksville High School.

Harvest Days at Dresden farm

DRESDEN − Horse Drawn Harvest Days will be noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in October at the Never Tread Farmstead, 9220 North Rover Road, Dresden.

Ables holding Heat for Our Heroes contest

ZANESVILLE − Ables Inc. is accepting nominations for its seventh annual Heat for Our Heroes furnace giveaway. The heating, air conditioning, electric and refrigeration company was founded in 1967 and has 70 full-time workers.

Active duty military, veterans or surviving spouses residing in Muskingum, Guernsey, Perry, Morgan and Noble counties are eligible for nomination to receive a new electric of gas furnace. Nominations will be accepted through Oct. 16 with the winner announced on Nov. 11. Nominations can be made at heatforourheroes.com/Nominations.

Summer Crisis program ending soon

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Development and MEOAG Inc. are offering a home energy assistance summer crisis program for income eligible residents related to paying electric bills and central air conditioning repairs.

Approximately 458 families were helped by the program in 2022. The program runs from July 1 to Sept. 30. For more information, call 740-302-8404.

One will need to provide copies of their most recent energy bills, list of household members with proof of income, proof of citizenship, proof of disability if applicable and physician documentation of cooling assistance needed for a household member's health if there isn't someone age 60 or older in the home.

Water bill assistance available

ZANESVILLE − The Ohio Department of Development and MEOAG Community Action Commission of Muskingum County are offering water assistance program for income eligible residents needing assistance to pay for water and wastewater bills.

One must provide copies of their most recent water and wastewater bills, a list of all household members and proof of income, proof of residency, proof of disability if applicable and other possibly needed documentation.

School boards meeting on Thursday

East Muskingum Local Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 4 p.m., at John Glenn High School, 13120 John Glenn School Road, New Concord.

The West Muskingum Local Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 5 p.m., in the library of West Muskingum Middle School, 100 Kimes Road.

Maysville Local Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m., at the administrative center, 3715 Panther Drive.

Ludowici Foundation supports Dolly Parton Library

NEW LEXINGTON − The Ludowici Community Foundation has entered into a matching gift partnership with Abbey Border of Century 21 Frank Frye Real Estate.

The local non-profit agency is promoting its annual fundraising campaign to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Perry County. The program provides free age-appropriate books for children from birth to age 5. Ludowici reports about half of the 2,500 eligible children in Perry County are registered with sponsorship of $25 per child.

Border will cover the first 50 donations for annual sponsorship and challenges other businesses and organizations to donate or assist in other ways.

Ludowici will have an annual fundraising event from 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 16, at the Saint Rose Community Center, 309 N. Main St., New Lexington. It will feature live and silent auctions, cash bar and an opportunity for networking.

Walmart Foundation donates to local charities

ZANESVILLE − The Walmart Supercenter of South Zanesville, 2850 Maysville Pike, recently held a community celebration and unveiled a community inspired mural part of store remodeling.

Some changes include an increased number of staff registers and self-checkout lanes, more shopping carts, updated customer service area, expansion of many departments, vignette displays, updated vision center, expanded grocery pickup and delivery services, modernized restrooms and an overall refreshed interior and exterior.

The Walmart Foundation also made donations to several local non-profit organizations. FreedomCRY Church received $2,000 and the South Zanesville Fire Department got $500. Receiving $1,000 each were Big Brothers Big Sisters, Eastside Community Ministry, ForeverDads Center for Fathers and Families, Homeless Hands of Zanesville, Muskingum County Literacy Council and the Newton Township Volunteer Fire Department.
