Local organizations providing free HIV testing for National HIV Testing Day

Health departments are partnering with local organizations to provide free HIV testing for National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) on Monday, June 27.

Walgreens and Greater Than AIDS is partnering with health departments and community organizations in Atlanta for more information on HIV testing.

Participating Walgreens stores will offer free, on-site, fast, and confidential HIV testing.

There will also be counselors available to answer questions about HIV prevention and treatment.

Public health officials say HIV testing rates have not returned to the level they were before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, making this year’s NHTD more important than ever.

In 2019, there were 56,446 people living with HIV in Georgia.

The Greater Than AIDS and Walgreens National HIV Community Partnership works with local agencies to expand HIV testing and information through non-traditional settings.

Since 2011, more than 72,000 free HIV tests have been provided as part of the annual event, including 15,300 self-tests provided during 2020-2021.

Monday’s free HIV testing will be at an Atlanta Walgreen on 595 Piedmont Ave NE #100, Atlanta, GA 30308.
