Local pharmacies running low, out of stock on Children’s Tylenol

Several local pharmacies and big-box stores are running low on certain types of Children’s Tylenol.

The low supply comes as Canada has faced a serious shortage of the medication for months. Johnson & Johnson, however, tells Channel 11 that the issue has not crossed the border.

“We are not experiencing shortages of Children’s Tylenol in the United States,” according to a statement from the company. “There is increased consumer-driven demand for our children’s pain reliever products in Canada, and we’re taking all possible measures to ensure product availability.”

However, a number of local pharmacies told Channel 11 that they’ve seen a short supply. Hilltop Pharmacy, in Pittsburgh, told us that Tylenol products have only been trickling in as of late. Waltmire Pharmacy told us they’ve experienced a shortage of Children’s Tylenol.

The owner of Blueberry Pharmacy in the North Hills told us on Thursday that he is able to order plenty of variations of children’s Tylenol and said he has not observed a shortage.

A quick search on Target’s website revealed that Chewable Children’s Tylenol products are out of stock all across the Pittsburgh region. The closest location with “limited” stock was in Wheeling, West Virginia. Similarly, Channel 11 visited a local Giant Eagle store on Wednesday and found several empty slots for Children’s Tylenol products.

“It is a little scary,” one grandmother told us.

Fortunately, families still have options.

Channel 11 reached out to both UPMC and AHN. A spokesperson for each organization told us that they are not seeing a shortage.

Channel 11 further found several alternative options and generic brands at Blueberry Pharmacy and Giant Eagle.
