Multiple police departments are warning residents of a text going around about a t-shirt sale.
The text offers $10 off a department t-shirt, according to a screenshot shared on Twitter by Brookline Police.
Police say this is a nationwide scam and phishing attempt. Phishing involves posing as a legitimate company in order to get people to reveal personal information, like passwords and credit card numbers.
Newton, Harwich, Chatham, and multiple other police agencies have reported similar scam attempts.
If you get a text message with a suspicious link, you should never click it.
Thank you to everyone who messaged us- this is a nationwide scam/phishing attempt. If you want a shirt, come see us on 8/2 at National Night Out!https://t.co/5gKb05rhJ7 pic.twitter.com/ScJa6grv4Y
