Local prosecutor announces campaign for SLO County judge

Deputy District Attorney Mike Frye announced in a press release Tuesday his campaign to fill an open judge seat at San Luis Obispo Superior Court.

Frye is currently the head of the public integrity unit at the District Attorney’s Office. He has been a prosecutor for 25 years in both state and federal courts. He is one of 321 attorneys in California — and one of two in San Luis Obispo County — recognized as a criminal law specialist by the California State Bar, according to the release.

“If elected, I commit to running a courtroom where those who come before me — whether victim, defendant or any other person presenting their case — will leave feeling that they have been heard, even if they disagree with the outcome,” Frye said in the release.

Frye earned his law degree from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. He joined the San Luis Obispo District Attorney’s Office in 2016 after working as an assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of California.

Frye is running for the seat unopposed at this time. The election will take place on June 7.
