Local religious and civic groups to host New Era for Columbus: A Call to Action hearings starting on Feb. 3

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – A coalition of religious and civic groups are partnering up to bring locals New Era for Columbus: A Call to Action, hearings designed to discuss “what is needed to stop senseless violence.”

According to the coalition, several religious and civic groups have come together to create a series of discussions to “change the destructive family environment which has emerged for the last 30 years resulting in senseless violence, mass incarceration of our youth, upsurge in gun violence and hopelessness within Columbus neighborhood.”

The alliance formed with the IInterdenomiination Ministerial Alliance, Project Rebound INC., NAACP-Columbus, A Call to Talk-A Community to Take Action, and other neighborhood organizations will collaborate, to orchestrate hearing where faith leaders, civic groups, concerned citizens, educators, ex-offenders, parents and street organizations can discuss what is needed to stop the that “has destroyed many Columbus homes and neighborhoods.”

The alliance says the hears will be compiled into a final document from concerned citizens and “will be given to local law enforcement, educators, business leaders and government officials for their accountability.”

The hearings will take place on the following dates and locations from 12 p.m. – 2p.m.:

  • Feb. 3 at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church located at 203 R.C. Allen Drive.

  • Feb. 10 at Greater Peace Baptist Church located at 2822 8th St.

  • Feb. 17 at Rose Hill Memorial Baptist Church located at 1301 22nd St.

  • March 23 at Macedonia Christian Ministries located at 3645 Cusseta Rd.
